Blank Canvas Theatre will present GODSPELL, with a book by John Michael Tebelak, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, directed by Patrick Ciamacco and music direction by Lawrence Wallace. The show runs tonight, December 6 - 21 Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm.

GODSPELL boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, 'Day By Day.' As the cast performs 'Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,' 'Learn Your Lessons Well,' 'All For The Best,' 'All Good Gifts,' 'Turn Back, O Man' and 'By My Side,' the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.

As audience members smilingly walked out of Blank Canvas's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MUSICAL! covered with spatterings of stage blood, I could only think that something appears to have gone off-course in Cleveland theatre. On stage at local venues are the blood revenge musical, SWEENEY TODD, as well as the story of the maniacal murderous RICHARD III. Then there is the burning up of a boy and the live burial of his mother in LILIES at convergence continuum. Now, I had just seen a psycho killer who uses a chainsaw, knives, hammers and baseball bats to bludgeon his victims. Victims who sing gleefully about their demise.

Little did Artistic Director Pat Ciamacco realize when he elected to produce Reginald Rose's 12 ANGRY MEN that his selection would be fortuitous. How could he have known that the Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman trials would be the major news stories, with the latter being decided the day Blank Canvas's production opened.

NEXT FALL continues the Blank Canvas's streak of well conceived productions of challenging scripts. Though viewers may have to set aside their own individual beliefs in order to buy into the play's ending, this is an overall positive theatrical experience and very well worth seeing.

There is a new theatre in town…Blank Canvas. Founder Patrick Ciamacco explains that this is a professional theatre which pays designers and actors for their services. He states that the organization's staff is "dedicated to providing a positive working environment and want to show loyalty and investment in actors."
