 Show Boat, the first great serious Broadway musical, combined the talents of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II. "Ol' Man River", is the show's most memorable anthem about how the mighty Mississippi River, that unstoppable force of nature, is completely indifferent to human suffering.

The Dallas Opera is the proud recipient of two extraordinary new gifts, totaling $2 million, from The Eugene McDermott Foundation and Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) McDermott, who have requested that the position of Dallas Opera General Director and CEO be known henceforth as the “Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO” in honor of the longtime Dallas Opera Board Member and Past Chairman.  Dr. Wildenthal currently serves the company as an Officer-at-large on TDO's Executive Committee.

The brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, launched this September at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, under the auspices of the Center Theatre Group, and is now touring North America for multiple seasons, playing multi-week and week-long engagements. THE SOUND OF MUSIC premieres at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County on December 29, 2015 through January 3, 2016.
