The hills are alive! Tickets are on sale for the brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. This lavish new production runs Dec. 13-18 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center as part of a North American tour.

The 2016-2017 season of performing arts programs at the Riverdale YM-YWHA kicks off with a new production of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical CAROUSEL. 

To the tune of classic songs like "If I Loved You," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "June is Bustin' Out All Over," and many more, CAROUSEL transports audiences to turn of the century New England for a romantic tale that transcends heaven and earth.  A ne'er-do-well carnival barker falls in love with a naive girl as the merry-go-round of life spins on and on through hope, tragedy, and ultimately, redemption.

Columbia Stages will present Columbia University School of the Arts graduating class of MFA actors, appearing in a pair of thesis productions at Teatro LATEA at The Clemente.

To celebrate the brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Psycho Donuts has created a limited-edition donut, 'Jam and Bread," inspired by the song "Do-Re-Mi" from the acclaimed musical. "Jam and Bread" is a raised yeast donut filled with raspberry jam and will include a powdered sugar quarter note sprinkled on top. "Jam and Bread" will be available at Psycho Donuts (288 S. Second Street, San Jose) from November 7 - 13, 2016.

The McCallum Theatre presents the new national touring production of The Sound of Music, directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O'Brien, for 8 performances, Tuesday, November 22, through Sunday, November 27. BEN DAVIS (Broadway's Violet, A Little Night Music, La Boheme)will play Captain Georg von Trapp and MELODY BETTS will play The Mother Abbess with MERWIN FOARD as Max Detweiler, TERI HANSEN as Elsa Schraeder, AUSTIN COLBY as Rolf and PAIGE SILVESTER as Liesl. The production introduces Jack O'Brien's brand new discovery, KERSTIN ANDERSON as Maria Rainer.  A current student at Pace University, Ms. Anderson won the coveted role from hundreds who auditioned.

These shows will be distributed worldwide by theatrical licensing agent, R&H Theatricals, a division of Rodgers & Hammerstein, An Imagem Company, for performances by schoolchildren, amateurs and professional performers.

There's something about Tonya Pewitt, a certain, almost indefinable, something that makes her an ideal musical theater leading lady (perhaps, we admit, that's a dated term in these politically correct times – we are, after all, in the 21st century and the election of the first woman president of the United States seems imminent – but in regard to Ms. Pewitt, we use the term affectionately, respectfully and even reverently), attributes that she has accumulated, if you will, in a lifetime spent as a fan of classic Broadway and film musicals. She's charming and oh-so-engaging, beautifully alive onstage in a way only great musical theater stars can be when the follow spot hits them upon their first entrance.

According to The Intell, Oscar Hammerstein II proposed museum in Doylestown Township can move forward, however becoming a theater is off the table.
