Sylvan Winds Presents WINDS OF CHANGE In Chelsea, 2/16

The Sylvan Winds announce the second concert of the 2016-17 Season celebrating music, culture, and history. Performing in historic and notable New York City buildings and performance venues, the ensemble creates imaginative and informative programs that complement the environs of each space.

'My Name Is... The Lost Children of Kloster Indersorf' Opens Today at the Museum of Jewish Heritage

Children and teenagers who had managed to survive concentration camps, forced labor, life in hiding, and the devastating loss of family members during World War II faced great uncertainty after liberation. Some of these "lost" children found refuge and relatives through a United Nations-sponsored relief center in a former convent named Kloster Indersdorf. These children are the subject of a new exhibition, titled My Name Is… The Lost Children of Kloster Indersdorf, at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. The exhibition is on view January 18, 2017 through April 30, 2017.

PS122 Extends CVRTAIN, Virtual Reality Encounter by Yehuda Duenyas, to January 21

Due to popular demand, Performance Space 122 extends CVRTAIN, a Virtual Reality (VR) experience by Yehuda Duenyas, to January 21. As part of the twelfth edition of PS122's Coil festival, CVRTAINplaces the participant center stage in a beautiful theater where a curtain parts to reveal an audience of thousands teeming with adulation.

Zimmerli Presents INNOVATION AND ABSTRACTION: WOMEN ARTISTS AND ATELIER 17, 1/17-5/31

Innovation and Abstraction: Women Artists and Atelier 17, on view at the Zimmerli Art Museum from January 17 to May 31, 2017, examines the formal innovations and burgeoning feminist consciousness of eight artists who worked in the studio's New York location: Louise Bourgeois, Minna Citron, Worden Day, Dorothy Dehner, Sue Fuller, Alice Trumbull Mason, Louise Nevelson, and Anne Ryan.

BRIC Presents SURFACE MATTERS

BRIC is pleased to present Surface Matters, an exhibition of work by artistsVeronique Gambier and Sarah E. Brook, in the Project Room of BRIC House. Curated by Brooklyn-based art collective 3walls, theshow highlights the deep investment both artists put in the materials used to create their work-art that expresses rich emotional content, visual interest and aesthetic beauty. Through the use of varying media and dimension, their quiet, powerful works suggest vastness as well as disappearance, solitude as well as strength. Both Gambier and Brook are on BRIC's Contemporary Artist Registry.BRIC House is located at 647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn, and Gallery and Project Room hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm, and Sunday 12-6pm. The exhibition is on view from February 1-26. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 7-9pm.

Chen Dance Steps Presents NEWSTEPS, 1/12-14

Chen Dance Center presents newsteps, its semi-annual emerging choreographer's series, January 12-14 at 7:30 PM.   Since 1994, its theater has supported and presented hundreds of young dancers and choreographers developing innovative new works through space and production grants.

The Kitchen Presents Colin Self and Raul De Nieves' Chamber Opera THE FOOL

From February 9-11, The Kitchen presents Raul De Nieves and Colin Self's The Fool. Constructed as a chamber opera scored in four acts for chorus and string ensemble, The Fool is an allegorical journey drawing an ante-narrative around time, beauty, communion and mortality.
