The New Black Fest and The Lark, two theater organizations dedicated to celebrating and advocating for stories that explore the intersection of art and social justice, are proud to announce the fifth annual The New Black Fest at The Lark. This week-long event is aimed at showcasing diverse and provocative work in a festival of Black theater artists from throughout the Diaspora, and will feature talkbacks, a panel event, and staged readings of four plays-in-progress. The festival will take place April 9-13, 2018, and will include works by 2017 Djerassi Writer in Residence France-Luce Benson (Deux Femmes On the Edge De La Revolution), 2018 Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award recipient Donja R. Love (soft), 2015 Princess Grace Award-Winner Jonathan Payne (Brother Rabbit), and artist, activist, and The New Black Fest alum Liza Jessie Peterson (Sistergurls and the Squirrel) who has performed excerpts of her one-person play The Peculiar Patriot in over 35 penitentiaries across the country.

Vangeline Theater Presents ELSEWHERE 5/24-5/26

Brooklyn Ballet, a unique and interdisciplinary dance company rooted in the classical idiom, presents Revisionist History, a provocative and diverse Spring season of broad range and repertoire. Brooklyn Ballet's programming is ever-expanding, embracing multifaceted dance styles and refashioning historical works. April's offerings include works of legendary dance makers George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, Isadora Duncan and Michel Fokine, as well as premieres of mixed genre and interdisciplinary works by Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson. The Company presents 5 performances, April 19-22, in The Mark O'Donnell Theater at The Actors

The Kitchen presents a multimedia project from Charles Atlas, continuing the institution's nearly 45-year relationship with the video art pioneer. In The Kitchen's gallery, two new video installations take a retrospective look at Atlas' work while offering a counterpoint to his interactive 2003 show Instant Fame! and its portraits of downtown figures (March 28-May 12).

Geva Theatre Center's Artistic Director Mark Cuddy and Executive Director Christopher Mannelli are proud to announce the 11 major productions and 2 festivals of the much anticipated 2018-2019 Season, the non-profit theatre's 46th year of making professional theatre of a national standard in Rochester.

Writer/performer Kirya Yvonne Traber presents a theatrical mixtape at JACK, sharing songs of necessity and stories of longing. For this mix of concert and theater piece, Traber is backed by a four-piece band, with musical arrangements by Emma Alabaster. Featured musicians include Kala Brame (percussion), Alex Marcelo (piano), Emma Alabaster (bass), and Gwen Laster (viola), with a scenic installation by Jacqui Martinez and lighting design by Marika Kent. What We Needed features original music and text by Traber, and was created, in part, through the Lincoln Center Education Community Artist in Residence Program.

New York Live Arts presents the world premiere of Bessie Award winner Joanna Kotze's What will we be like when we get there, a new interdisciplinary dance performance with long-time collaborators dancer/choreographer Netta Yerushalmy, visual artist Jonathan Allen, and composer/musician Ryan Seaton. What will we be like when we get there will premiere at New York Live Arts March 28-31, 2018, 7:30 PM. In conjunction with the performance, an exhibition, Knowing that your House is on Fire in the lobby of New York Live Arts, will feature new works by visual artist, Jonathan Allen. Edward Gardner will make his New York Philharmonic debut conducting Debussy's Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestra, featuring The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Leif Ove Andsnes in his final appearances with the Orchestra in that role. The program will also include Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra and Sibelius's Pohjola's Daughter. The performances will take place on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 at 8:00 p.m.; they will perform the same program at Long Island University's Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, April 27 at 8:00 p.m.

Chen Dance Center presents Newsteps, its semi-annual emerging choreographers series, April 19-21 at 7:30 PM at the Chen Dance Center in New York's Chinatown.  This edition of newsteps differs from past events in that the participants selected to show their works are 'non dancers'  - professional artists, actors, musicians, singers, photographers, applying their knowledge of the creative processes of their respective art forms to the choreographic process.

The Wooster Group will open their newest piece, A PINK CHAIR (In Place of a Fake Antique) at The Performing Garage (33 Wooster Street) in New York City, with performances from April 28 through May 19, with press opening on Wednesday, May 9. The production will come to New York following a run in Los Angeles at The Roy and Edna Disney/CALARTS Theater from April 5-15, 2018.

The Harlem Chamber Players will celebrate its tenth anniversary season with Harlem SongFest at Columbia University's Miller Theater (2960 Broadway, New York, NY 10027), Friday evening, June 1, 2018, 7 pm, featuring Met Opera sopranos Janinah Burnett and Brandie Sutton, mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, tenor Phumzile Sojola, baritone Kenneth Overton, and conductor David Gilbert, Music Director and Conductor of the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra. One woman's theatrical foray into the worlds of nature and technology, NATURAL/NOT NATURAL will be presented by author/performer Rebecca Singer in Catskill's intimate Bridge Street Theatre on Saturday April 14 at 7:30pm and Sunday April 15 at 2:00pm.

The greater Binghamton area's only non-profit Equity theatre company's 12th season includes the North American premiere of a comedy that's been popular in Europe for years, as well as three regional premieres, including a new musical that sold out it's extended 2017 run in LA.  Local audiences will be one of the first in country to see this new country western hit musical, set in a laundromat and featuring songs from many outstanding country artists.

Madison Square Park Conservancy is proud to announce the opening of its thirty-fifth exhibition, Whiteout by artist Erwin Redl. The project features a luminous white carpet of LED lights across Madison Square Park's central Oval Lawn, on view from November 16, 2017 through March 25, 2018.

New York Live Arts 2018 Live Ideas Gala, co-chaired by Slobodan Randjelovi? and Jon Stryker and Ruth and Stephen Hendel and hosted by award-winning performer and playwright Anna Deavere Smith, pays tribute to Live Arts' annual Live Ideas Festival. The Gala will take place at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place, New York City on Monday, April 16, starting with a cocktail reception at 6:30pm and followed by the dinner and program at 7:15pm.

Madison Square Park Conservancy announces its thirty-sixth exhibition, Delirious Matter by artist Diana Al-Hadid. Six new sculptures will be installed across Madison Square Park's central Oval Lawn, peripheral lawns, and northern reflecting pool. Delirious Matter is the artist's first major public art project. It will be on view from May 14, 2018- September 3, 2018.
