In December of 2013, Geva Theatre Center was selected as a recipient of a prestigious grant from the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation to create a multimedia celebration on the life and work of legendary blues guitarist, Son House. The 18-month project, entitled "A Journey to the Son," will bring together musicians, writers, artists and the area's leading regional theatre company in a "creative collision" to celebrate one of Rochester's own, Eddie "Son" House. The project will culminate in a four-day celebration in August weaving together stories, music, theatre, film, audio recordings, storytelling and lectures.

The October broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begins with Jeffrey Kahane conducting the New York Philharmonic in J.S. Bach's Concerto for Violin and Oboe, featuring Principal Associate Concertmaster Sheryl Staples (now the Orchestra's Acting Concertmaster) and Principal Oboe Liang Wang with Mr. Kahane leading from the harpsichord; Mozart's Symphony No. 33; and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, with Mr. Kahane conducting from the piano.
Next up on its Main Stage, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents the Bard's epic pageant play Henry VIII. Centered around the tug-of-wars between church and state and husband and wife, the play culminates in the birth of England's future Queen Elizabeth I, Shakespeare's great patron and Henry's fierce and very female heir.
