New York City Opera Appoints Myra Huang Head of Music Staff

New York City Opera has announced the appointment of Myra Huang, whom Opera News has praised as 'among the top accompanists of her generation' and 'a colouristic tour de force,' as Head of Music Staff. The announcement comes on the eve of a 2013 season full of new productions, beginning with Thomas Adès' Powder Her Face, directed by Jay Scheib, February 15-23 at BAM.

Musica Sacra Appoints Janice L. Mayer Executive Director

Janice L. Mayer has been named Executive Director of Musica Sacra by the President of the Board of Directors, Scott Lethbridge. Ms. Mayer's leadership of the nonprofit choral organization will be effective January 2, 2013. In announcing the appointment, Mr. Lethbridge said, "Janice's long experience with the classical music world combined with her business acumen will be an invaluable asset to Musica Sacra."

American Opera Projects Participates in the Brooklyn Public Library's Kwanzaa Project, 12/27-12/28

AOP (American Opera Projects) in partnership with The Walt Whitman Project will be participating in the Brooklyn Public Library's annual free Kwanzaa program on Thursday, December 27 at 3pm at the S. Stevan Dweck Auditorium at the Central Library, Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn Public Library (10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238). On Friday, December 28 at 2pm, the program will be repeated at the Rosetta Gaston Senior Center in Brownsville (460 Dumont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212.)

American Composers Orchestra Announces Orchestra Underground: Time Travels, 1/18

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) performs its second concert of the 2012-13 concert season, Orchestra Underground: Time Travels, on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 7:30pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. The concert, led by ACO Music Director George Manahan, features music that explores the concept of time - its mutability, importance, and role as an organizing principle. Lukas Foss' 1960 masterwork, Time Cycle, is the centerpiece for the program, with soprano Jennifer Zetlanas the soloist. The evening also includes the world premiere of composer and sopranoKate Soper's now is forever: I. Orpheus and Eurydice for Voice and Orchestra featuring the composer as soloist, the world premiere of Kyle Blaha's Triptych, and the US premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Zhou Long's Bell Drum Towers.

New York City Center’s 2012-13 Choreography Fellowships Awarded To Brian Brooks, Beth Gill and Pontus Lidberg

Choreographers Brian Brooks, Beth Gill and Pontus Lidberg have been awarded New York City Center's 2012-13 Choreography Fellowships. The Fellowship program was launched in conjunction with the theater's reopening season in 2011-12 with a mission to support choreographers at critical stages in their careers. It reflects City Center's long history of nurturing dance makers from George Balanchine to Christopher Wheeldon.

Westport Hosts 2012 Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition, 12/1 & 2

The 41st annual Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition, a two-day event presented by the Connecticut Alliance for Music (CAM) with the support of the Westport Arts Center, will bring together young musicians from around the world at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport, today and Sunday, December 1 and 2. The bi-annual competition is named for the late Heida Hermanns, a world-class concert pianist and music lover, who lived in Westport for more than 40 years.

Michael Ball to Launch BOTH SIDES NOW Tour in April

Broadway veteran Michael Ball will release a new studio album, also titled 'Both Sides Now' in addition to launching a UK tour in spring 2013. Both the tour and the album will comprise of 2 halves, encompassing Michael's biggest hits from both his recorded and stage careers.

Final Cast Announced for THE CHRISTMAS ROSE at Carnegie Hall

The new family musical special, The Christmas Rose, features a cast of over 400 and stars the multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actress Jane Seymour and legendary Broadway actor and Tony nominee Lee Roy Reams. The Christmas Rose, with music and story by PBS composer Tim Janis, follows a young orphan named Annabelle, played by thirteen year old Bailey Grey, into the desert where she crosses paths with everyone from the three wise men and singing angels to Mary and Joseph, while being pursued by a team of desert bandits.
