The Opera Dinner Comes to Martha's Vineyard Tonight

If Opera be the Food of Love, Eat On, starring Chef Matthew Passaclacqua of Lure Grill & Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater. The Opera Dinner will be presented tonight, October 19th, 2013 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort - Lure Grill (31 Dunes Road Edgartown, MA 02539). The evening combines opera classics, great food, in a lovely setting for this unique cabaret-style event. This special event is a part of the annual Martha's Vineyard Food & Wine Festival - a celebration of sea, farm and vine (October 17-20, 2013).

Winter Opera Saint Louis to Present Charles Gounod's FAUST, 11/8-10

Winter Opera Saint Louis kicks off its seventh season Friday, November 8th (8pm) and Sunday, November 10th (3pm) with Charles Gounod's FAUST, sponsored by Morgan Stanley. Based upon Goethe's tragedy and Michel Carre's play, the story has become iconic: Mephistopheles entices the disillusioned philosopher Faust with the opportunity to have his every desire on earth…in exchange for his soul. Faust's decision threatens to destroy his community, especially his true love, Marguerite. Gounod's score abounds with some of opera's greatest gems, including Valentin's "Avant de quitter ces lieux," Faust's "Salut! demeure chaste et pure," and Marguerite's famous Jewel Song "Ah! Je ris de me voir!"

Davis Gaines and Victoria Strong Star in Cabrillo Music Theatre's KISS ME, KATE, Beg. Tonight

CABRILLO MUSIC THEATRE welcomes Davis Gaines (Southern California's Longest-running PHANTOM) and Victoria Strong in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza premiere of Cole Porter's most raucous, sexy, and best loved musical ever, KISS ME, KATE! New York Philharmonic Kicks Off Free Insights Series October 23

The 2013-14 season of the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will begin this month with two events. The series is free to the public throughout the season, and all events take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (Columbus Avenue at 62nd Street) at 7:30 p.m.

ALT and FWOpera to Host 'Living Libretto' Experience for World Premiere Opera JFK, 11/9

Lawrence Edelson, Producing Artistic Director of American Lyric Theater, in conjunction with Darren K. Woods, General Director of Fort Worth Opera, announced today a collaboration between the two companies on JFK (working title), a new opera by the acclaimed team of composer David T. American Lyric Theater presents the first public libretto reading for the 2013-2014 season as part of its popular series, The Living Libretto, at the National Opera Center today, October 16th, 2013. Featuring guest actors from the Broadway and off-Broadway stage, each event is the culminating reading of an extensive libretto workshop conducted for new operas being written by ALT Resident Artists under the auspices of the company's Composer Librettist Development Program.

Just last week, Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group announced the casting and initial tour schedule for their spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera launching a major North American Tour in Providence, R.I. at the Providence Performing Arts Center. With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, the most successful musical of all-time, will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America. Fort Worth Opera Announces Partnership with American Lyric Theater for Upcoming JFK Opera, 2016

Fort Worth Opera General Director Darren K. Woods today shared further details about the highly anticipated world premiere of the company's third commissioned opera, JFK (working title), by the sensational and highly acclaimed team of composer David T. Little and librettist Royce Vavrek. The opera, which serves as the crown jewel of Fort Worth Opera's (FWOpera's) 70th anniversary season in 2016, is the final work in three years of world premieres from the company that begin during the upcoming 2014 season. The world premiere production of JFK will take place at Fort Worth's renowned Bass Performance Hall on April 16, 2016.

Update: Bernard Labadie To Conduct Mozart's Requiem and Works by J.S. Bach and Handel; Matthew Muckey Subs for Philip Smith

Bernard Labadie will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Mozart's Requiem; J.S. Bach's Cantata No. 51, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen!; and Handel's “Let the Bright Seraphim” from Samson. The program's soloists will include soprano Miah Persson, mezzo- soprano Stephanie Blythe, tenor Fre?de?ric Antoun in his Philharmonic debut, bass Andrew Foster- Williams, and the New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt. Associate Principal Trumpet Matthew Muckey, replacing Principal Trumpet Philip Smith, who is on temporary leave from the Orchestra, will make his Philharmonic solo debut in these performances. The concerts will take place Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m.

A special welcome party was hosted last evening by Bonnie Comley and Stewart Lane at a private club in New York City to celebrate his arrival and to introduce him to Bay Street Theatre patrons and members of the Broadway community of actors, directors and producers. New Season of Young People's Concerts Begins with Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Tonight

The 92nd season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will be launched tonight, October 12, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione will lead selections from all four movements of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. This is the first program in this season's series, Points of Entry, in which each concert explores facets of music and the orchestra itself through a single, influential score. The performance will feature the Manhattan School of Music Symphonic Chorus, Kent Tritle, director.

New York City Opera May Have Potential Deal?

New York City Opera filed for bankruptcy-court protection last week after failing to meet their financial needs. The opera had announced that it needed $7 million by the end of September to mount its full season and an additional $13 million by the end of the year. Unfortunately, they were unable to reach that goal.

Martin E. Segal Theatre Center Announces Fall 2013 Theatre Season

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center has announced its Fall 2013 season of public programs. Following the 10th anniversary of the Center's wildly successful PRELUDE Festival (attended by over 2,500 audience members), the season continues with 14 free public programs throughout the Fall, featuring contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

AOP and Phoenix Concerts Present 'AOP25: Celebrating Composers & the Voice' Concert Tonight

AOP (American Opera Projects) and The Phoenix Concerts will co-produce 'AOP25: Celebrating Composers & the Voice,' a concert featuring the work of composers and librettists from AOP's C&V (Composers & the Voice) program, an annual fellowship that trains composers to write for the operatic voice.
