Christina Kounelias has been named to the newly created post of Chief Marketing Officer for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, it was announced today by Academy CEO Dawn Hudson.

Nikki Blonsky, the actress best known for her role in the musical movie version of Hairspray, will join the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles for a screening of the film. LAist reports that the event will take place on July 31 during the 8:30 screening at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

John Waters' ultimate Baltimore musical - 'Hairspray'-comes to the CCBC Essex stage this weekend and runs through Aug. 7. Based on the 1988 New Line Cinema film classic written and directed by Waters, this delightfully campy homage to 1960's Baltimore will have you dancing in the aisles. The multiple Tony winner ran for more than six years on Broadway and now we've got it back in Baltimore!

Susan Anton is announced to join the cast of HAIRSPRAY at the Hollywood Bowl as Velma Von Tussle. The production reunites the original Broadway stars Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winokur; and includes Corbin Bleu, Drew Carey, Diana DeGarmo, Mo Gaffney, Nick Jonas, Darlene Love, Tara Macri, Michael McDonald and John Stamos. Anton co-starred as Velma Von Tussle in the Las Vegas production of the Broadway musical, Hairspray, opposite Harvey Fierstein. HAIRSPRAY is at the Hollywood Bowl for three performances only, August 5, 6, and 7.

According to published reports,Tom Cruise will give a concert tonight in Miami in character as Stacee Jaxx to be filmed for the ROCK OF AGES film. Crusie will reportedly be singing Bon Jovi's 'Wanted, Dead or Alive' and Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing.' The concert is taking place at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. A New Line Cinema casting notice for the crowd called for 80s enthusiasts over 16 dressed in their best 80s garb. Cruise's co-stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta will also perform alongside Cruise.

On Saturday, July 16, the Broadway cast of ROCK OF AGES, including Rebecca Faulkenberry, Dan Domenech, MiG Ayesa, Mitchell Jarvis, Adam Dannheisser, Cody Scott Lancaster, Michele Mais, Josephine Rose Roberts, Paul Schoeffler, Tessa Alves, Ericka Hunter, Jenifer Foote, Tony LePage, Michael Minarik, Andre Ward, Emily Williams and Jeremy Woodard celebrated 1000 performances of the hit musical on Broadway.

Singer/actress Nikki Blonsky truly embodies that notion of overnight success. The Hollywood Reporter reveals today that SNL's Will Forte has joined the cast of the Rock of Ages film. The New York comedian and Celebrity Autobiography regular will be playing the part of news anchor Mitch Miley, specifically written for the film.

In 2006 The Wedding Singer was turned into a Broadway musical with the identical Ridgefield, New Jersey characters, but with some alterations in plotline. What counts most is the upbeat 80s humor, which the stage version retains in spades, as well as unlimited heart. MTW (Musical Theatre West)'s regional premiere does the show proud under Larry Raben's dynamite direction and sporting a rollicking cast.
