Photo Coverage: Backstage at New Group's CRIMES OF THE HEART Benefit Reading with Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet & More!

Last night, Marin Ireland, Sebastian Stan, Raviv Ullman, and GIRLS stars Zosia Mamet and Allison Williams led a benefit reading of Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize winning play Crimes of the Heart for The New Group. The special event took place at 7pm in the Acorn Theatre (Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street). BroadwayWorld was there for the special event and you can check out photos below!

New Group Extends THE JACKSONIAN Through 12/22

Due to demand, The New Group has announced a one-week extension for The Jacksonian, by Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley. Originally set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement through December 15, this production now plays through Sunday, December 22. Directed by Tony Award winner Robert Falls, this New York premiere features Ed Harris, Glenne Headly, Amy Madigan, Bill Pullman and Juliet Brett. Previews begin October 25 in advance of an Opening Night on November 7 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street).

Popular Tony Award-winning Broadway headliner and GLEE notable Idina Menzel stars in the new Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey musical IF/THEN and a peek behind the scenes of a new group photo shoot has been revealed following a first look at the ensemble of the show in costume all together for the first time earlier today.

Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman to Lead New Group's ANNAPURNA in April

The New Group announces the third production in its 2013-2014 Off-Broadway season: the New York premiere of Annapurna by Sharr White (The Snow Geese, The Other Place) directed by Bart DeLorenzo (Artistic Director, Evidence Room; Ivanov, Margo Veil, The Receptionist – Odyssey Theatre) and starring Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”) and Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”). A limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated April 13 through June 1 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street).

Bechtler and Out of Bounds Ensembles Join for Charlotte Composers Forum Today

Maestro Alan Yamamoto, formerly with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, is bringing together two established, contemporary groups in the metro area - the Bechtler Ensemble and the Out of Bounds Ensemble - to create the Charlotte Composers Forum. The 'new' group is scheduled to perform for audiences at Winthrop University today, Oct. 20 and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on Oct. 27.

Alice Cannon, Jacob Perkins & More to Lead Hudson Stage Company's 4000 MILES

'4000 Miles' features Scarsdale resident and Broadway veteran Alice Cannon (Helen Hayes award- winner for James Joyce's 'The Dead') as 91 year old grandmother Vera, Jacob Perkins (Guthrie Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre of DC) as Leo, her grandson who has suffered a major loss while on a cross-country bike trip and seeks solace from her in NYC, Ella Dershowitz (soon to be featured in the New Group's premiere of 'Intimacy') as Bec, Leo's estranged girlfriend and Nadia Gan ('Golden Child' at the Signature Theatre) as Amanda, a distraction from heartache.

Flying Carpet Theatre's MEDICINE SHOWDOWN to Begin 10/12 at the East 4th Street Theatre

The Flying Carpet Theatre (FCT) presents the New York premiere of THE MEDICINE SHOWDOWN, a new play by Topher Payne and Adam Koplan that interweaves a traditional story (inspired by Henrik Ibsen's classic 'Enemy of the People') with scenes from a turn-of-the-century medicine show, complete with tap dance, old time melodrama, country music and vaudevillian comedy. THE MEDICINE SHOWDOWN begins performances October 12 prior to an official press opening of October 16 at the East 4th Street Theatre (83 East 4th Street - btw. Bowery and Second Avenue) in Manhattan.

Francis Jue and Justin Anthony Long Set for ALT's WHY IS EARTHA KITT TRYING TO KILL ME? Reading Today

American Lyric Theater presents the first public libretto reading for the 2013-2014 season as part of its popular series, The Living Libretto, at the National Opera Center today, October 16th, 2013. Featuring guest actors from the Broadway and off-Broadway stage, each event is the culminating reading of an extensive libretto workshop conducted for new operas being written by ALT Resident Artists under the auspices of the company's Composer Librettist Development Program.

Melis Aker, Khris Davis and More Star in Arena Stage's LOVE IN AFGHANISTAN, Beg. Tonight

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Charles Randolph-Wright's world premiere drama Love in Afghanistan. Randolph-Wright, a Resident Playwright through Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute and director of Motown the Musical currently on Broadway, joins forces with director Lucie Tiberghien (MCC Theater's Don't Go Gentle) to bring to life the tale of two fantastically different people discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance, religious differences and political unrest. Love in Afghanistan runs tonight, October 11-November 17, 2013 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

Carolyn Sampson Performs at Carnegie Hall Tonight

Hailed by critics as one of the world's leading Baroque soloists, soprano Carolyn Sampson performs a program of Purcell's songs and arias in Weill Recital Hall tonight, Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Sampson is joined by period instrumentalists Beiliang Zhu, viola da Gamba, Paul O'Dette, lute, and Kenneth Weiss, harpsichord, during her New York recital debut.

Moises Kaufman Directs Daniel Beaty's THE TALLEST TREE Premiere at La Jolla Playhouse, Now thru 11/3

La Jolla Playhouse announces a fifth production for its 2013/14 season: the world premiere of The Tallest Tree, a new play with music written and performed by Daniel Beaty (Emergency, Through the Night), directed by Moises Kaufman (I Am My Own Wife, The Laramie Project). A co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre, The Tallest Tree will run in The Playhouse's Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre tonight, October 9 - November 3, 2013. The piece is produced in association with Tectonic Theater Project.

Caps Lock Theatre to Bring THE SEX WITH ROBOTS FESTIVAL to the Secret Theatre, 11/5-10

CAPS LOCK THEATRE presents THE SEX WITH ROBOTS FESTIVAL, a series of short plays about sex with robots, written by a formidable group of playwrights: Micheline Auger, Danny Bowes, J. Julian Christopher, Richard Lovejoy & Eric Meyer, Mariah McCarthy, Mac Rogers, Leah Nanako Winkler and Natalie Zutter, with a robot sex song cycle by Nat Cassidy. The festival is set for November 5-10 at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City.
