The Sing-Off Live Tour Heads to PlayhouseSquare, 3/14

The Sing-Off, NBC's No. 1 rated a cappella music competition, is hitting the road for the first-ever Sing-Off Live Tour! Appearing locally at PlayhouseSquare's State Theatre, Fri., March 14 at 8 pm, tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, December 20 at 10 a.m.

The New Group continues its 2013-2014 season with the world premiere of Intimacy, a new play by Thomas Bradshaw. Directed by Scott Elliott, Intimacy features David Anzuelo, Austin Cauldwell, Ella Dershowitz, Laura Esterman, Daniel Gerroll, Dea Julien and Keith Randolph Smith. A limited Off-Broadway engagement plays January 14 - March 8 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street), with Official Opening Night set for Wednesday, January 29 at 7:00pm. Tickets to New Group's ANNAPURNA with Megan Mullally & Nick Offerman Now on Sale

Tickets go on sale Monday, December 16 for the New York premiere of Annapurna by Sharr White (The Snow Geese, The Other Place) directed by Bart DeLorenzo (Artistic Director, Evidence Room; Ivanov, Margo Veil, The Receptionist - Odyssey Theatre) and starring Megan Mullally ("Will & Grace") and Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation"). A limited engagement is slated Off-Broadway at The New Group, from April 13 - June 1. Official Opening Night takes place Monday, April 21 at 7:00pm, at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street).

Christina Masciotti's ADULT to Play Abrons Art Center 1/30-2/15

This January, playwright Christina Masciotti whose most recent play VISION DISTURBANCE, directed by Richard Maxwell, was described as a "showcase for Masciotti's gift for writing" by The New York Times, "brilliant … and … unforgettable" by The New Yorker, and named one of the Top Ten Plays of 2010 by Time Out New York, will premiere her latest play ADULT, presented by Darling and Company in association with terraNOVA Collective, at Abrons Art Center.

New Chicago Artists Join the Goodman's Artistic Team for 2013-14 Playwrights Unit

A new crop of local talent joins Goodman Theatre's artistic team for the 2013/2014 Season. The four Chicago-based writers named to the fourth season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works-include Andrew Hinderaker, Gift Theatre ensemble member; Mickle Maher, cofounder of Theater Oobleck; Anne Garcia-Romero, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists; and Laura Schellhardt, who oversees undergraduate playwriting at Northwestern University. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2014, and culminates in summer 2014 with staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Greg Allen, Alice Austen, Ike Holter and Christopher Oscar Peña (2012/2013 Season); Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season); and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).

Daniel Beaty to Star in THE TALLEST TREE IN THE FOREST at Arena Stage, 1/10-2/16

Following the world premiere co-production at Kansas City Repertory Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse, playwright and performer Daniel Beaty brings The Tallest Tree in the Forest to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Beaty, whose work has been seen at Arena Stage as a playwright with his play Resurrection and as a performer in his award-winning solo play Emergency, channels close to 40 characters in The Tallest Tree in the Forest in a "tour de force" (San Diego Reader) performance, giving audiences an intimate look at one of the most dynamic and controversial figures in history-artist and activist Paul Robeson. Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (playwright and director for Broadway's 33 Variations, which received its world premiere at Arena Stage in 2007) directs this music-infused new play that features 14 songs and an onstage band. Developed and produced by Tectonic Theater Project, The Tallest Tree in the Forest runs January 10-February 16, 2014 in the Kreeger Theater and will play the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles following the Arena Stage run.

THE JACKSONIAN's 12/15 Performance to Benefit the Actors Fund

The New Group production of Beth Henley's THE JACKSONIAN - directed by Robert Falls and featuring Ed Harris,Glenne Headly, Amy Madigan, Bill Pullman and Juliet Brett - will offer a special performance to benefit The Actors Fund Dec. 15 at 8 PM.

Tina Benko Receives Equity's St. Clair Bayfield Award

Tina Benko has received the annual St. Clair Bayfield Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation for her performance as Titania in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Julie Taymor as Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural production at its new home in Brooklyn. The announcement was made by Arne Gundersen, President of the Foundation.

The Sister Rosettas Return to New Ohio Theatre, Now thru 12/14

After a sold-out run in September, The Sister Rosettas are back with five more performances. A revival of the rock/pop-punk/cabaret music of world touring MING DYNASTY, last seen on City Stages in 2009 alongside Diana Ross, Ben Harper, and Al Green, now brings new front woman Diana Oh and bassist/songwriter Philippe Arman to the stage. The story of how this new collaboration was formed fuses old songs and new and is led by veterans Eric Miranda, Kole Smith and Matt Harrington.

OZMA OF OZ Set for Playwrights Foundation's Rough Readings Series Today & Tomorrow

The Playwrights Foundation's 2013 Winter Rough Readings Series concludes with readings of Rob Melrose's adaptation of OZMA of OZ today, December 2, 7:30pm at Roble Hall, Stanford University and tomorrow, Tuesday, December 3, 7pm at The Thick House, San Francisco. Directed by Rob Melrose, OZMA of OZ is a trip-hop musical based on L. Frank Baum's third book in the Wizard of Oz series and presented in partnership with Cutting Ball Theatre.

NPCA Hosts CENTRESTAGE Festival, Now thru Dec 8

Three years ago, The National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), India's premiere arts and culture institution, rejuvenated the theatre scenario in Mumbai by introducing its first-ever, major, multi-lingual annual theatre festival of premiering plays - Centrestage. The festival aimed to create a platform for new/different works and encourage the birth of new groups.

Red Bull Theater presents the first-ever Off Broadway revival of Loot by Joe Orton. Red Bull Artistic Director Jesse Berger directs a company that includes Rebecca Brooksher (Fay), Eric Martin Brown (Meadows), Jarlath Conroy (McLeavy), Ryan Garbayo (Dennis), Rocco Sisto (Truscott), and Nick Westrate (Hal).
