American Blues Theater continues its 2017-2018 Season with its 16th Annual Production of It's a Wonderful Life: Live in Chicago! from Frank Capra's film and directed by Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside with musical direction by Ensemble Member Michael Mahler. It's a Wonderful Life: Live in Chicago! runs November 16, 2017 January 6, 2018 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. The official press opening is November 18, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.
Luther Burbank Center for the Arts Welcomes John Hiatt and The Goners For One Night Only

Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts announced that John Hiatt & The Goners, featuring Sonny Landreth, will come to Santa Rosa for one night only on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 8 p.m. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the album Slow Turning, John Hiatt & The Goners will be playing the album in its entirety, along with greatest hits from their storied career. Tickets range in price from $39 $59 and go on sale Friday, September 22 at noon. They are available at lutherburbankcenter.org, by calling 707-546-3600 or in person at the ticket office at 50 Mark West Springs Road in Santa Rosa.
L.A. Chamber Orchestra Receives Historic $1.5 Million Gift For Principal Oboe Chair

=Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), currently celebrating its 50th anniversary season, received a $1.5 million gift, the largest in the Orchestra's history, from philanthropists Carol and Warner Henry, who have championed the Orchestra and consistently been among its top donors since the early 1970s, it was announced by Executive Director Scott Harrison. The extraordinary gift endows the Principal Oboe Chair, to be titled the "Allan Vogel Chair, endowed by the Henry Family," which is named in honor of Allan Vogel, who served as LACO's much beloved Principal Oboe for 44 years until his retirement in June 2016.

The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's "Scare Pair," a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues). Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) launches its milestone 50th anniversary with three back-to-back weeks of unique programs spanning L.A. County that culminate in the ensemble's first 2017-18 Season Orchestral concerts featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell on Saturday, September 30, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, Glendale, and Sunday, October 1, 2017, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. In performances led by guest conductor Jaime Martin that help kick off Leonard Bernstein's centennial, Bell performs Bernstein's lyrical Serenade (after Plato's Symposium) for violin and orchestra inspired by Plato's text on love.

Bernstein's Philharmonic Celebrates Centennial Festival, 10/25–11/14

The New York Philharmonic will present Bernstein's Philharmonic: A Centennial Festival, October 25-November 14, 2017,celebrating the former Philharmonic Music Director and Laureate Conductor on the centennial of his birth. The festival - which is part of the worldwide salute to the legacy of the renowned composer, conductor, pianist, and educator - will center on Bernstein's symphonic cycle, conducted by Alan Gilbert and Leonard Slatkin, complemented by other Bernstein works as well as by music by composers he admired and championed. In addition, the Philharmonic will present a Young People's Concert - the series that Bernstein famously brought to national attention through the television broadcasts - titled Inspirations and Tributes: "Celebrating Leonard Bernstein," conducted by Leonard Slatkin and featuring pianist Makoto Ozone on November 11. A number of other events - ranging from a marathon of Bernstein's Mahler recordings to a partnership with Harvard and University of Michigan to explore Bernstein as an educator and conductor - complement the concerts throughout the centennial season. Bernstein served as the Philharmonic's Music Director from 1958 to 1969, when he was named Laureate Conductor, a title he held until his death in 1990.
