Singer-songwriter Nellie McKay will perform on Friday, February 23 at 8PM in the Spotlight Caf at the Capitol Center for the Arts. McKay puts her spin on classics by artists ranging from Steve Miller to Cole Porter and Doris Day to the Beatles and Frank Zappa. Her original songs touch on subjects as far-ranging as her beloved dog to political and environmental issues.

Joni Mitchell arguably one of the greatest songwriters of her generation will be honored on her birthday at a special benefit concert showcasing songs from her prolific, multidecade career.

Today's subject Nellie McKay is probably best known as a singer and songwriter, but what you may not know is that she has a theatre connection. She has lived her theatre life onstage at Roundabout Theatre Company in The Threepenny Opera as Polly Peachum. That performance won her a Theatre World Award. Intimate Nights: The Golden Age of Cabaret was the theme of the Third night of The 28th New York Cabaret Convention held at JALC Rose Theater. It was a grand eventing and the enthusiastic audience got to enjoy the artists quite well during the 3 1/2 hours of music.
