FOLLIES Begins Final Two Weeks of Broadway Performances

The critically acclaimed Kennedy Center revival of FOLLIES, book by James Goldman and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, begins its final 16 performances tonight at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). The production, directed by Eric Schaeffer with choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by James Moore, will play its final performance on Sunday, January 22 prior to an engagement at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for six weeks only, May 3 through June 9, 2012.

WEST SIDE STORY Plays The Fox Theatre 2/14

The tour of the Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY is coming to St. Louis. WEST SIDE STORY will open at The Fox Theatre on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

The Tony Winning Broadway Revival Of HAIR Comes To The Kravis Center

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. HAIR was also nominated for an additional seven Tony Awards including Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. The cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY Makes Boston Premiere in February

The national tour of the new musical comedy THE ADDAMS FAMILY, based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, will make its Boston premiere February 7-19, 2012 at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre as part of the LEXUS 2011-12 Broadway In Boston Series. Press night for the engagement is Wednesday, February 8 at 7 PM.

HAIR to Visit Academy of Music, 1/3-8

The 2009 Tony Award Winning Musical Revival HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, will play Philadelphia's Academy of Music for a limited engagement Jan. 3 - 8 as part of the Broadway Season, which is presented by The Kimmel Center and The Shubert Organization. The press opening is Tues. Jan. 3 at 7:30 pm.

UP ON THE MARQUEE: NEWSIES!

As previously announced, Newsies will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre for a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed run at Paper Mill Playhouse earlier this fall. The musical, featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), will play its first Broadway preview on March 15th prior to its March 29th opening night; the final performance is scheduled for June 10th. Broadway San Jose Partners with Psycho Donuts to Promote CATS

Celebrating the opening of CATS, Broadway San Jose and Psycho Donuts have teamed up to create two signature "CATS" donuts! The partnership kicks off on December 28th, from 11am - 1pm, when a Psycho Donut "nurse" will be made up like a character from the musical by Jimmy Goode, the show's Lead Hair.Broadway San Jose will be on hand as well, entering fans to win tickets to their upcoming shows.

STAGE TUBE: Idaho Production of RENT Sparks Controversy

A regional production of RENT doesn't open until January at Coeur d'Alene's Lake City Playhouse, but locals are already protesting the show because it 'promotes vulgarity and sets a bad example.' Watch the video below to check out the full story.

Bernadette Peters Bids Adieu to FOLLIES Post Broadway; Will Not Star in LA Run

Casting for the Los Angeles engagement of Follies has not yet been announced, and while it is presumed that at least some of the cast will be heading west, one star who will not make the trip is Bernadette Peters, who plays Sally Durant. A spokesperson for Peters tells BroadwayWorld that the star has concert obligations she must fulfill next spring, which will prevent her from continuing with the production. Peters will, of course, finish out the Broadway run through January 22.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY Creators on the Reworked National Tour

According to the Chicago Trinune, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, which will close on Broadway later this month, will return to Chicago next week, and audiences should expect a reworked show. Creator Rick Elice said of the harsh critical response for the Broadway production: "It was difficult to get past that at the outset. To be told that this was the worst musical of the past 40 years. Really? That vitriol was part of my energy for reinvestigating the show."
