With all finalists treated to an evening of entertainment and celebration, The Smith Center for the Performing Artshonored 20 Clark County School District (CCSD) educators as the winners of the 2017 Heart of Education Awards, hosted at the Smith Center's Reynolds Hall on Saturday, April 29.
Following a successful inaugural event in 2016, the finalists for the 2017 Heart of Education Awards will be honored at a red-carpet ceremony at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. This second-annual awards event, powered by The Rogers Foundation, celebrates Clark County School District (CCSD) teachers who go above and beyond for their students.
Last night (March 7, 2017), The Smith Center for the Performing Arts celebrated its milestone Fifth Anniversary with a sold-out, commemorative concert featuring Broadway favorites, local talents and more. Emceed by Broadway veterans and stars of THE LAST FIVE YEARS Adam Kantor (FIDDLER ON THE ROOF) and Betsy Wolfe (BULLETS OVER BROADWAY) each talked about the last five years at The Smith Center. Featured performers included Brent Barrett (PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR), Santino Fontana (CINDERELLA) and Jessica Fontana (IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL), Chandra Lee Schwartz (WICKED), Teller of Penn and Teller, Nate Dendy (THE TEMPEST), Christopher Convery (KINKY BOOTS), J. Elaine Marcos (MISS SAIGON), Christine Hudman (IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL), Ashley Loren (BAZ - STAR CROSSED LOVE), Randal Keith (LES MISERABLES), Bruce Ewing (PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR), Alex Ellis (IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL), Joan Sobel (PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR), and Nicole Pryor Dernersesian (PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR) presented under the musical direction of Keith Thompson. On Monday, April 4, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts drew back the curtains to present the third annual Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration inside Reynolds Hall. Hosted by Las Vegas headliner and former Disney Broadway star Josh Strickland, the event featured performances inspired by four Disney classics-The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh-that were presented by six elementary schools from the Las Vegas Valley.
