Review: NO EXIT by Jean-Paul Sartre Offers an Inside Look at Existentialist Hell

Real Art Daily Productions (RADProd) is a new company that produces both film and theatre productions. With concentrated study and education in both classical music and theatre, Georginna Feyst, CEO and Executive Producer, whose reverence for fine art, cinema, theatre and other forms of storytelling let her to select probably one of the most definitive and difficult plays, Jean-Paul Sartre's 1944 existentialist play, NO EXIT, as the company's kick off production. In it, three strangers are locked together by a Bellboy in what they assume is hell (since all know they have recently died). Expecting but not receiving any physical torture to occupy them, they are forced to simply exist with each other without any hope of escape from the room, each other, and worst of all - themselves. It is a 100-minute examination of the futility of life.

Njideka Akunyili Crosby and Charles Gaines Will Participate in ARTISTS TALK at The Broad Stage

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage and Sotheby's Institute of Art a partnership with Claremont Graduate University, will present internationally acclaimed, Los Angeles-based artists Njideka Akunyili Crosby and Charles Gaines in conversation with Anne Ellegood, Senior Curator, Hammer Museum on Monday, May 21 at The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center. ARTISTS TALK: A Conversation with L.A. Artists is the second program in a series of talks with influential California-based artists, established to explore the living legacy of Los Angeles' vibrant contemporary art scene.

MIT Premieres Pedro Reyes' Puppet Play with Noam Chomsky, Karl Marx, Ayn Rand, Elon Musk, Tiny Trump

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is pleased to announce the world premiere of Manufacturing Mischief, a new satirical play by Pedro Reyes that features puppet characters based on Noam Chomsky, Karl Marx, Ayn Rand, Elon Musk and "Tiny Trump." Making its world premiere at MIT's Simmons Hall on April 26 and 27, 2018, the work was conceived as part of Reyes' residency as the inaugural Dasha Zhukova Distinguished Visiting Artist at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology. This position was established to support artists in the development of new work through contributions made by MIT's renowned faculty and students.

Creative Time And Art Basel Announce BASILEA

Conceived by artists Lara Almarcegui, Isabel Lewis, and Santiago Cirugeda-led architecture studio Recetas Urbanas, 'Basilea' encourages reflection on a city's possibilities through a series of immersive projects connecting the City of Basel, its residents, and the over 90,000 fairgoers who attend the Basel fair annually. A Creative Time project commissioned by Art Basel, 'Basilea' will open to the public on May 23, culminating the week of Art Basel. The project marks Creative Time's first international public commission and the first collaboration between the artists. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will take place at Messe Basel from June 14 to June 17, 2018.

Broadway Legend Christine Ebersole Takes The Stage In Scottsdale

Two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole will take the stage as a last-minute replacement for Laura Benanti at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 17, at 8 p.m., when she and pianist/commentator Seth Rudetsky perform songs from the great musicals.

Madison Square Park Conservancy Announces Artist Diana Al-Hadid's First Major Commissioned Outdoor Public Art Exhibition

Madison Square Park Conservancy announces its thirty-sixth exhibition, Delirious Matter by artist Diana Al-Hadid. Six new sculptures will be installed across Madison Square Park's central Oval Lawn, peripheral lawns, and northern reflecting pool. Delirious Matter is the artist's first major public art project. It will be on view from May 14, 2018- September 3, 2018.

The Colburn School Selects Frank Gehry To Design Campus Expansion

Sel Kardan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Colburn School, today announced that this leading institution for music and dance has selected Frank Gehry to design a campus expansion adjacent to its existing facilities in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Andrew Millstein, Chairman of the Colburn School, and Carol Colburn Grigor, Life Chairman Emeritus, joined Kardan in announcing the project, which will heighten the School's presence in a cultural corridor that includes Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Music Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and The Broad, and will make this area of Downtown one of the largest concentrations in the world of performing and visual arts organizations.

MAD Presents Groundbreaking Feminist Collage Paintings of Miriam Schapiro

From March 22 to September 9, 2018, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) presents Surface/Depth: The Decorative After Miriam Schapiro, an exhibition that showcases twenty-nine collage paintings by the pioneering feminist artist Miriam Schapiro in conversation with twenty-eight works by nine contemporary artists: Sanford Biggers, Josh Blackwell, Edie Fake, Jeffrey Gibson, Judy Ledgerwood, Jodie Mack, Sara Rahbar, Ruth Root, and Jasmin Sian. Bringing into focus the key, but unheralded, role Schapiro played in the reframing of craft and decoration in the American art world, this juxtaposition of historic and contemporary work highlights ways in which the decorative continues to be utilized as a critical tool in art today.

21st Biennale Of Sydney Launches Across Seven Locations, Presenting 70 Artists And Artist Collectives For 45th Anniversary Edition

The 21st Biennale of Sydney opens to the public this Friday, 16 March, presenting the work of 70 artists and artist collectives from six continents, at seven locations around Sydney, in a free, three-month exhibition running until 11 June 2018. This year, Australia's pre-eminent contemporary art event celebrates its 45th anniversary and has been curated by Artistic Director Mami Kataoka exploring the theme of SUPERPOSITION: Equilibrium & Engagement.

Keir Choreographic Awards Announce Finalists

The Keir Choreographic Award is Australia's first major choreographic award presented by the Keir Foundation, Carriageworks and Dancehouse with the Australia Council. The Keir Choreographic Award is a national biennial award dedicated to commissioning short works and promoting innovative, experimental and cross-artform practices in contemporary dance. The award invites Australian professional artists with an established practice to propose a choreographic idea for an original live performance of no more than 20 minutes.

Manual Cinema's THE MAGIC CITY Comes to The Soraya, 3/18

Immersive, innovative, intimate, ingenious- Manual Cinema combines the old and the new, from shadows created on vintage projectors to innovative multi-media storytelling with multiple screens and live cameras.  They come to the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) on Sunday, March 18 at 3pm, following debuts in Australia, France, and Germany.

Applications Due May 23 For Scottsdale's Community Arts Grant Program

Scottsdale Arts is accepting applications for its Community Arts Grant Program, which provides funding to Scottsdale and Valley nonprofit arts and cultural organizations for projects that serve the Scottsdale community. The grants are funded by the City of Scottsdale. 

PlayCo Presents U.S. Premiere Of Toshiki Okada's TIME'S JOURNEY THROUGH A ROOM

The Play Company (PlayCo), led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald and Managing Director Robert G. Bradshaw, presents Toshiki Okada's Time's Journey Through a Room, marking PlayCo's third collaboration with Okada, translator Aya Ogawa, and director Dan Rothenberg, May 10 - June 10, 2018. This haunting play, set in post-Fukushima Japan, is an intimate examination of how we move forward from life-altering events, and a study of how we experience time, asking whether we can ever be alive to the present moment.

This survey constitutes the largest presentation of Luchs's work to date. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Creative Time and The Fortune Society Announce 'Bring Down The Walls'

Creative Time, in partnership with The Fortune Society, is proud to announce Bring Down The Walls, a three-part public art project with artist Phil Collins in collaboration with over 100 individuals and organizations located at Firehouse, Engine Company 31, a historic, decommissioned fire station. Bring Down The Walls will be free and open to the public each weekend in May.
