Dance Center Presents Light Moves

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago opens its spring 2012 season with the return of the San Francisco Bay Area's Margaret Jenkins Dance Company in the Midwest premiere of Light Moves, Jenkins' most recent collaborative work.

Dan Graham and Corey McCorkle Exhibit to Close Murray Guy Gallery, 2/11

Murray Guy is very pleased to announce an exhibition with Dan Graham and Corey McCorkle, bringing together works that take up the design and architecture of gardens. Ranging from the folly-filled leisure grounds of an eighteenth century chateau to the 'corporate arcadias' which occupy the atriums of many post-1960s office towers, both artists engage the histories of garden architecture and its attendant fantasies of nature, enlightenment, contemplation, antiquity, leisure, and utopia.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance concludes its 2011-2012 Family Series and celebrates Black History Month with Afro-Beats!, a festive and interactive performance perfect for the whole family onSaturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Join the Fulcrum Point New Music Project, dancer Idy Ciss, saxophonist Jim Gailloreto, Morikeba Kouyate on the kora, and students from the Fulcrum Point Sound Tracks program as they explore the rich rhythms, sounds and images of West Africa in this 75-minute multimedia performance. Children of all ages are invited to participate in drumming circles, traditional African dances, and soulful songs in this spirited performance which features works by Fela Kuti, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Steve Reich, and traditional music from Mandingo and African-American cultures.

Yale School of Art Presents Exhibition of Work by Malcolm Morley, 1/31-3/31

The Yale School of Art presents an exhibition of oil paintings and works on paper by Malcolm Morley, one of the seminal figures of international contemporary art. Malcolm Morley in a Nutshell: The Fine Art of Painting 1954-2012 comprises fifteen paintings-including two painted installations being exhibited for the first time, seven watercolors, and a drawing, all selected from the expansive output of this paradigm-changing artist.

MoMA Presents Documentary Fortnight 2012

The Museum of Modern Art has announced Documentary Fortnight 2012: MoMA's International Festival of Nonfiction Film and Media, the 11th annual two-week showcase of recent documentary films examining the relationship between contemporary art and nonfiction practices, and reflecting on new areas of documentary filmmaking.

SculptureCenter Appoints Ruba Katrib as Curator

SculptureCenter has announced the appointment of Ruba Katrib as SculptureCenter's new Curator effective February 15, 2012. Katrib joins SculptureCenter after four years at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami. She brings a breadth of curatorial experience to an institution respected for its intellectual rigor and dedication to commissioning new work by emerging and established talent. Katrib joins the curatorial team that is lead by Mary Ceruti, Executive Director and Chief Curator, and includes Kristen Chappa, Curatorial Associate.
