Lehmann Maupin to Present SYNTHESA by Erwin Wurm, 2/28-4/19

Lehmann Maupin will present Synthesa, an exhibition of new works by Erwin Wurm, on view February 28 through April 19, 2014 at the gallery's 540 West 26th Street location. The artist will be present for an opening reception on Friday, February 28 from 6 to 8 PM.

Jus Juchtmans' COLOR-VIRUS Exhibition Opens at Margaret Thatcher Projects Today

Margaret Thatcher Projects will present Color-Virus, the third solo exhibition of Belgian artist, Jus Juchtmans. In the exhibition, micro-layers of acrylic and acrylic gel medium are skillfully stretched atop one another, creating an illusionary sense of space. The effect is balanced by thick drips at the edges of the canvas, countering illusion and grounding, and giving attention to the physical object in its environment. This theme of duality underlies all of Juchtmans' paintings. The exhibition will be on view today, February 13 - March 22, 2014, with an artist's reception set for tonight, February 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mercury Theater Chicago Hosts Stephen Sondheim Panel After INTO THE WOODS Tonight

Mercury Theater Chicago and The Hypocrites will feature Stephen Sondheim: The Man and The Music, a post-show talk back discussion on the renowned composer with Dr. Mark E. Lococo, Professor and Director of Theatre at Loyola University Chicago; Dr. Sarah Gabel, Chairperson for the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University Chicago; and Director Geoff Button, following the 8:00 p.m. performance of INTO THE WOODS tonight, February 7 at the Mercury Theater Chicago, 3745 N. Southport Ave. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and the book by James Lapine, The Hypocrites bring their heightened and playful sense of theatricality to the musical INTO THE WOODS through March 30.

David Zwirner Presents DOUG WHEELER, Now thru 3/29

David Zwirner is pleased to present a new installation by American artist Doug Wheeler (b. 1939) at our 537 West 20th Street location. This will be the gallery's second solo exhibition of the artist's work. Known for the seminal light environments that he developed in the 1960s and 70s, Wheeler will present a new type of installation that he calls “a rotational horizon work,” which will occupy the ground floor gallery. Connected visually and conceptually to his previous works, this immersive environment will emphasize the viewer's physical experience of space, focusing attention on the way light almost imperceptibly changes along the horizon as the earth turns.

CSO & MusicNOW Festival to Present World Premieres by Nico Muhly and David Lang, 3/21-22

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces the subject matter of the upcoming works to receive their world premieres by the Orchestra as part of the groundbreaking artistic collaboration with the MusicNOW Festival and Artistic Director Bryce Dessner. On Friday, March 21, the Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Louis Langrée, will premiere Nico Muhly's Pleasure Ground, a portrait work depicting the life of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead. On Saturday, March 22, Mr. Langrée and the CSO will premiere mountain, a new work by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang depicting the life of American composer Aaron Copland.

The Hypocrites to Bring ROMEO JULIET & 12 NIGHTS to A.R.T. Next Month

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University has announced the return of the Chicago company The Hypocrites, with their mash-up of Shakespeare's Romeo Juliet and 12 Nights. Adapted and directed by Artistic Director Sean Graney, the two productions will play in repertory at OBERON, 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge. Both productions are appropriate to children over the age of ten.

Rachel Rosenthal Company's INSTANT FAIR TALES Adds 2/8-9 Shows

The Rachel Rosenthal Company (RRC) presents Instant Fairy Tales, a brand new series of original fairy tales for the 21st century at Espace DbD in Los Angeles. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturdays, January 25 and February 8, as well as Sundays, January 26 and February 9, 2014. The performances, by Rachel Rosenthal Company's TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble, begin at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturdays, as well as at 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sundays. Instant Fairy Tales are particularly well suited for children and families. Seating in the intimate performance space is limited to 35 patrons per show. Tickets cost $5.
