The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago welcomes choreographer-performer nora chipaumire with her most recent artistic investigation of the black body, Africa and the self, portrait of myself as my father ('father' is crossed out in the title), co-commissioned by the Dance Center.

Mixografia to Present Series of Editions in Collaboration with Jacob Hashimoto

 Mixografia is pleased to announce the release of new editions, produced in collaboration with New York-based artist Jacob Hashimoto. This series of Mixografia prints are inspired by the artist's practice of creating intricate installations from layers of rice paper and bamboo kites held together by fishing wire. Each print consists of layers of delicate kites that have been carefully arranged on a rough wooden work surface, resembling the studies for installations that the artist creates in his studio.

Eighth Blackbird Announces Launch of BLACKBIRD CREATIVE LAB

Eighth Blackbird today has been named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America, adding to the shower of accolades the group has enjoyed throughout its 20th anniversary (2016). MOCA Kicks Off Art Basel Miami Beach Week With THE OTHER DIMENSION

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) will launch its Art Basel Miami Beach season with the presentation of The Other Dimension by Cuban-born, Miami artist Antuan Rodriguez. The Other Dimension addresses the constant human concern for universal communication through forms, symbols and codes. Curated by Jorge Luis Gutierrez, The Other Dimension kicks off Art Basel Miami Beach Week with a special meet the artist reception on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The exhibition is then open to the public through January 22, 2017. 

Borderlands Theater Presents the World Premiere of Sonoran Shadows

Borderlands Theater presents the world premiere of Sonoran Shadows, a shadow play based on Patricia Preciado Martin's El Milagro and Other Stories, excerpted and adapted for the stage by Milta Ortiz. The family friendly spectacle will be staged outdoors at Armory Park Band Shell and Oury Recreation Center. Art direction by Cristina Cardenas. Marc David Pinate directs. Audience members are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks.

Greenway Arts Alliance Presents George Orwell's 1984

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength."  Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."  

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Presents THE BLUES PROJECT

In their first official engagement, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Dorrance Dance with Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely in The Blues Project, October 5 and 6, 2016 for two performances in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. Acclaimed tap dancer, choreographer, and 2015 MacArthur "Genius Grant" winner Michelle Dorrance and renowned versatile singer, songwriter, and guitarist Toshi Reagon combine their energetic ensembles for a dynamic collaboration honoring tap's uniquely beautiful history by pushing the boundaries of the genre. 

The Joffrey Ballet Announces Major Leadership Reorganization for Joffrey Academy of Dance

The Joffrey Ballet is pleased to announce a major leadership reorganization for the Joffrey Academy of Dance featuring a new team comprised of respected dance industry veteran Raymond Rodriguez as Head of Studio Company and Trainee Program, effective late October, and Joffrey Ballet's Karin Ellis-Wentz as Head of Pre-Professional Programs, effective immediately. Both of these newly created director-level positions will report to Karine Provost, who will serve in a newly elevated role as Academy Director. Additionally, Joffrey Ballet's Artistic Director Ashley Wheater will now serve as Artistic Director of both the Academy and the Company - assuming creative leadership across the organization. 

MAD Presents Annual Visionaries! Awards at MAD Ball Celebrating its 60th Anniversary

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Pier 60, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will hold its annual gala celebrating outstanding individuals in the arts and design fields. For 20 years, the MAD Ball has recognized visionaries in the worlds of business, arts, philanthropy, and creativity, reflecting MAD's mission to celebrate innovation and excellence across all creative disciplines. This year's Visionaries! Awards will honor design advocate, patron, and longtime MAD Trustee Charles S. Cohen; the late architect Zaha Hadid; Italian design innovator MISSONI; and conceptual artist Yinka Shonibare. Hosted by Simon Doonan, the 2016 event will bring together 500 guests, including art patrons, artists, designers, and noted corporate and civic leaders, and will introduce the Museum's new Nanette L. Laitman Director, Jorge Daniel Veneciano.

Grand Ave Arts Presents Free Community Exhibits

Grand Ave Arts: All Access, the annual, one-day, free community event, returns on Saturday, October 29, 2016 with a diverse program of free, family-friendly activities, interactive workshops and tours that highlight and give access to the world-class arts and cultural organizations lining Grand Avenue between Temple and 6th Streets. Grand Ave Arts: All Access is a collaborative, community-inspired endeavor initiated by participating institutions to celebrate their commitment to the cultural landscape of Los Angeles and spotlight the world-class architecture and programming that define this corridor and this city.

Andrea Rosen Gallery Presents Tetsumi Kudo, 10/14 - 11/16

Andrea Rosen is proud to present the gallery's third exhibition exploring the work and ideas of Tetsumi Kudo (1935-1990). Building on past shows that surveyed Kudo's career and contextualized it vis-a-vis contemporaries like Paul Thek, Hannah Wilke, and Alina Szapocznikow, the current presentation will examine the artist's development in the 1970s and '80s, highlighting the spiritual and symbolic currents to which Mike Kelley (quoted above) identified in an essay for Kudo's 2008 retrospective at the Walker Art Center.  The exhibition at Andrea Rosen Gallery brings together a survey of approximately eight string works and over twenty cages, spanning from 1966-1988.

Samuel Levi Jones To Be Represented By Galerie Lelong

Galerie Lelong is proud to announce the representation of Chicago-based artist Samuel Levi Jones. Inspired by questions of authority, representation and recorded history, Jones has built a personal and poetic body of work centered around the deconstruction of institutional texts. Galerie Lelong will open its first solo exhibition with the artist on December 8, 2016.
