Jewelry Designer Joan Hornig to Receive 2014 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, May 10

Philanthropist and jewelry designer Joan Hornig will receive the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award presented annually by The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) to Americans who have made it their mission to share with those less fortunate their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents and selfless generosity; all while maintaining the traditions of their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America. The awards will be presented May 10 on historic Ellis Island at an elegant ceremony and dinner that embodies the spirit of America in their celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity. The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery Presents YOUSUF KARSH: AMERICAN PORTRAITS, Now thru 11/2

In celebration of a major gift to its collection of more than 100 portraits created by master photographer Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002), the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery is installing a special exhibition on the first floor of the museum, 'Yousuf Karsh: American Portraits.' This is the second of two installations and will run from today, May 2 through Nov. 2. A press preview for this installation will be held May 1 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Estrellita Karsh, Karsh's wife, will be in attendance.

Fiasco Theater to Make DC Debut with THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA at Folger Theatre, 4/17-5/25

The highly celebrated New York troupe Fiasco Theater will make their Washington, DC debut with their production of William Shakespeare's clever comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona at Folger Theatre. Directed by company members Jessie Austrian and Ben Steinfeld, The Two Gentlemen of Verona will play at the Folger from April 17 - May 25, 2014.

Round House Theatre Producing Artistic Director Ryan Rilette today announced the lineup of plays for company's 2014/15 season. During the new season, Round House will produce a modern American classic, a new musical, two contemporary comedies, a potent new drama, and a compelling new version of a classic on its Bethesda stage. As if there is not enough confusion in the art world THE Armory show and many satellite fairs dropped through New York Cities stratosphere Wednesday night and orbits through March 9. What is the Armory? An Armory is a place for the militia; however defendable attacks employing full scale GI Joe green suited plastic men and woman have gone dormant over the last century. What to do with all that empty cavernous space? In 1913 an Armory was repurposed to house an art exhibit and so was born THE Armory show. Now, no longer in an Armory, it might be better called the Pier show as it is housed in Pier 92 and 94 near 55th street on the far west side.

With a limited run from Friday, March 28 through Sunday, April 6 2014, Late Bus To Mecca and Every Goodbye Ain't Gone are being produced by Lauren M. FETCH CLAY, CHOIR BOY & More Set for Marin Theatre Company's 2014-15 Season

Last night at Opening Night of Carson Kreitzer's Lasso of Truth, Marin Theatre Company's artistic director Jasson Minadakis and managing director Michael Barker announced the company's 2014-15 season programming today. Ohio State Students to Perform in China Next Month

Nearly 30 students from The Ohio State University - including jazz musicians, dancers, and rappers - will travel to China March 7-17 to share their uniquely American art forms with audiences in cities and universities - and even an Embassy -- throughout China. The endeavor is funded by a U.S. State Department $50,000 grant and privately raised funds. The grant was awarded to the Center for American Culture collaboratively directed by Ohio State and Wuhan University (WHU) in Hubei Province, where students will perform, in addition to various other regions of China largely unfamiliar with the U.S. These include cities such as Nanning, Xinxiang, Shenyang, and Changchun.

Carolee Carmello Guest Stars in NYC Gay Men's Chorus and Youth Pride Chorus Gala Tonight

Tonight, February 19th generous supporters will come together to celebrate the mission of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus (NYCGMC) and Youth Pride Chorus (YPC) of promoting equality through the power of song. Harmony, now in its 13th year, will be held at Affirmation Arts, a luxury venue located in Manhattan's Hudson Yards. Three-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello will guest star at this year's gala. Members of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus (NYCGMC) and Youth Pride Chorus (YPC) will also perform.
