Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its staged reading of The King's Face, written and directed by Steven Young.

SoBe Institute of the Arts presents the World Premiere of Carson Kievman's HAMLET Soundtheater/Opera in the Little Stage Theater on Miami Beach. This provocative, sophisticated, and radically re-imagined musical setting of Shakespeare's masterpiece was the final commission by legendary producer Joseph Papp ("A Chorus Line," "Hair," etc.) for the New York Shakespeare Festival / Public Theater. Due to Papp's tragic passing soon after the work was completed, HAMLET remained unperformed, until now.

KIM SMITH, the acclaimed international performer called 'all decadence and sly appeal' by Back Stage, will bring his critically-acclaimed concert 'Misfit' back to New York for one night only. 'Misfit' premiered in March 2011 at New York's Laurie Beechman Theatre, and performed at Café Sabarsky and Duane Park Supper Club throughout the year. The next performance of 'Misfit' will take place at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street at 9th Avenue) on Sunday, February 12 at 9:30 PM. This will be only the second public reading of AMAZING GRACE, which has been in development for the past three years. Under the direction of Gabriel Barre, the cast will feature Josh Young (Judas in Broadway's upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar) as John Newton, Laura Michelle Kelly (Olivier Award winner for Mary Poppins), Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown, Side Show), Alan H. Green (Sister Act, Spelling Bee), Chris Hoch (Spamalot, Shrek), and Harriett D. Foy (Mamma Mia!)

At Imagination Stage's 2011 Gala on October 22, Joan Cushing, playwright, performer, writer, lyricist, and political satirist, was honored by the Imagination Award for her work in creating new musicals for young audiences.

Donald Smith greeted all the performers as they were about to set upon the stage at the Cabaret Convention last night, but unfortunately it had to be with a letter from him posted backstage at Lincoln Center. Mr. Smith is still in rehab after surgery (back soon) and this was the first time the Mabel Mercer Foundation's founder was not able to be among the assemblage of cabaret fans and marvelous performers that make this three day event the highlight of the 'cabaret year' However, Mr. Smith's touch was apparent by the quality of the artists chosen to appear in this years convention. Rick Meadows, Director and Production Stage Manager of the show started the evening off with some wonderful words from Donald, and then introduced Andrea Marcovicci to pinch hit for Mr. Smith.
