The Kitchen Continues Synth Nights Series with Champagne Jerry & More Tonight

The Kitchen will present the next installment of Synth Nights, its series devoted to the live performance of electronic music, tonight, December 16, with hip-hop performer Champagne Jerry, feminist punk act Penis and Swedish electronic artist Tami Tamaki. The bill brings together artists forming new performative personae, each from their own radically different place on the musical spectrum and has been organized by Matthew Lyons.

The Aviva Players will begin its 40th season tonight, October 16 with 'Songs, Piano Rags & Chamber Music by Women Composers, including the Piano Trio by Fanny Mendelssohn,' the first installment of a three-part concert series at Opera America, 330 Seventh Ave.  The concert will include piano rags by May Frances Aufderheide, Irene Giblin and Adeline Shepard; songs by Mira J. Spektor, and 'Vocal Duets' and 'The Piano Trio' by Fanny Mendelssohn.  The evening is presented in conjunction with Downtown Music Productions.

New York Phil to Present CONTACT! as Part of 'Focus on Japan'

The sixth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, concludes with "Focus on Japan," Friday, June 5, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Jeffrey Milarsky in his Philharmonic debut. The program co-presented with Met Museum Presents, the live arts series at the Metropolitan Museum, will feature modern and contemporary works by Japanese composers and a work influenced by Japan: Takemitsu's Archipelago S for 21 players; Messiaen's Japan-inspired Sept Haikai, with Stephen Gosling as piano soloist; the U.S. Premiere of Misato Mochizuki's Si bleu, si calme; and the World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commission of Dai Fujikura's Infinite String.

World-renowned abstract electronic composer Lee Gamble (UK) will be replacing The Haxan Cloak at Adelaide Festival's experimental electronic music festival Unsound Adelaie due to unforeseen circumstances. Gamble is set to appear Friday, March 7 at Queen's Theatre, in a line up including Morton Subotnick (USA), Nurse With Wound (UK) and Cut Hands (UK).

Rachel Rosenthal Company's INSTANT FAIR TALES Adds 2/8-9 Shows

The Rachel Rosenthal Company (RRC) presents Instant Fairy Tales, a brand new series of original fairy tales for the 21st century at Espace DbD in Los Angeles. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturdays, January 25 and February 8, as well as Sundays, January 26 and February 9, 2014. The performances, by Rachel Rosenthal Company's TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble, begin at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturdays, as well as at 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sundays. Instant Fairy Tales are particularly well suited for children and families. Seating in the intimate performance space is limited to 35 patrons per show. Tickets cost $5.
