Lawrence D. Cohen to Attend Manila Premiere of CARRIE, 9/20

American screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, best known for his screenplay for Stephen King's classic horror story 'Carrie,' will attend the opening night of Atlantis Productions' staging of the revamped 'Carrie'--the musical--at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Manila, Philippines on Friday, September 20.

Emma Hunton, Molly Ranson & More Set for PUMP UP THE VOLUME Workshop Today

Veteran film and theatre producer Sandy Stern, with Louis Hobson, Jake Groshong and Katie Tomlinson Diamond of Seattle's Balagan Theatre, will present a closed workshop performance today, July 12, of Jeff Thomson and Jeremy Desmon's new rock musical Pump up the Volume, directed by Tony Award and Drama Desk Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies,South Pacific) and Dave Solomon, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli and music direction by James Sampliner (Legally Blonde, The Wedding Singer).

MCC Theater recently announced that Neil LaBute's new play, Reasons to be Happy, also directed by LaBute, will now extend through Saturday, June 29th. Reasons to Be Happy is a companion piece to LaBute's critically-acclaimed award-winning play,Reasons to Be Pretty, first produced at MCC Theater in 2008 before moving to Broadway where it was nominated for three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Play. Kicking off the sixth season of Roundabout Underground, Bad Jews is a world premiere comedy by Joshua Harmon about the holy and the holier-than-thou. Bad Jews is directed by Daniel Aukin. Previews performances began on October 5, 2012 and the show will open officially on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. This is a limited engagement through December 16, 2012. STAGE TUBE: Inside the Making of the CARRIE Cast Album!

Ghostlight Records has just announced that Carrie: The Musical - Premiere Cast Recording has debuted atop the Billboard 'Top Broadway' Chart for the week ending September 30th. The official chart lists Carrie: The Musical as the #1 selling album of the week, followed by (in order of sales) Wicked, Bring It On, The Book of Mormon, Once, and Jersey Boys, all shows still running on Broadway, making Carrie's appearance atop the chart a rare feat. Released on Tuesday, September 25th, the immediate chart success of Carrie: The Musical signals the enduring qualities of its 2012 production at MCC Theater (which closed its celebrated run in April 2012) and the dynamic score with music by Academy Award®-winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), lyrics by Academy Award®-winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose), and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who also penned the film's screenplay.

For the first time ever, the musical Carrie has been preserved in a cast recording of the recent MCC Theater Off-Broadway revival. The cast of the revival - including headliners Marin Mazzie and Molly Ranson - will appear at Barnes & Noble (Upper East Side, 86th/Lex) today, September 25 to sign copies of the album and perform selections from the show.
