Breaking News: LOUIS RIEL Among Canadian Opera Company's 2016-17 Lineup

Canada's greatest achievement in music, LOUIS RIEL, is returning to the Canadian Opera Company stage in a new production to help mark the 150th anniversary of the country's confederation. Stratford Festival's KING LEAR, ANTONY & CLEOPATRA and KING JOHN to Air on CBC-TV, Beginning Sunday

The Stratford Festival comes to CBC-TV this September with spectacular performances of KING LEAR, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA and KING JOHN, captured live in HD and presented uninterrupted. These productions are the first in the Stratford Festival HD initiative, which will see all of Shakespeare's plays filmed over the next 10 years, making them available to audiences nationwide and around the world.

Acorn Productions' NAKED SHAKESPEARE Continues First Friday Shows, 5/1

Maine Playwrights Festival Sets Performance Schedule

Acorn Productions, a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and developing the Southern Maine community of performing artists, announces the final schedule of performances for this year's fourteenth edition of the annual Maine Playwrights Festival (MPF), which takes place from May 13 to 17 at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland. This year's MPF is co-directed by MPF Founder Michael Levine and Daniel Burson, former Education and Literary Director at Portland Stage Company, and features three guest directors as well as a residency by Boston-based playwright Melinda Lopez. The festival also includes the fifth installment of the 24-Hour Portland Theater Project, in which six plays are written, rehearsed and performed in the span of twenty-four hours. Tickets for the MPF range from $10 to $15, and a complete performance schedule, as well as more information about the plays and on-line ticket ordering, is available on Acorn's website at www.acorn-productions.org.

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Richard Wagner's majesticTannhauser conducted by Sir Andrew Davis in a new-to-Chicago production byTim Albery. It opens on Monday, February 9 with seven performances through Friday, March 6. Performance dates are Feb. 9, 14, 18, 26, Mar. 2, and 6 at 6pm; and Feb. 22 at 1pm. (Note earlier curtain times.) Tannhauser will be sung in German with projected English translations.

Naked Shakespeare to Bring POEMS OF PASSION to Yarmouth, 2/11

Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' acting company dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in non-traditional venues without sets, lights, and costumes, presents 'Poems of Passion' a 50-minute show comprising a series of Shakespeare's sonnets and love poems by many other authors spanning the years from Sappho to Carol Ann Duffy. This fully-staged show runs approximately 50 minutes, and touches on all the different aspects of love, including infatuation, courtship, lust, marriage, and separation.

Dudu Fisher to Headline Community Performing Arts' 2015 Concert Season

Acorn Productions Now Accepting Scripts for Maine Playwrights Festival

This year, Acorn is pleased to welcome Daniel Burson, former Literary and Education Manager for Portland Stage Company, as co-Artistic Director along with Founding Director Michael Levine.

Acorn Productions Teams with Maine Charitable Mechanics Association for New Performance Space

Acorn Productions, the 501(c)3 organization that operates the Naked Shakespeare series, has entered into a collaborative agreement with the Maine Charitable Mechanics Association (MCMA), the non-profit organization that owns and operates Mechanics Hall, located at 519 Congress Street, to complete the final stages of renovations to the third floor ballroom space so that the venue can be licensed for public performances.

Naked Shakespeare Launches New Series of Monthly Wine Bar Shows, 4/14 & 5/12

Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' acting company dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in non-traditional venues without sets, lights, and costumes, resumes its monthly series of free performances of scenes and soliloquies in April. The company has not had a venue for these popular monthly collections of pieces from the Bard's canon since the old Wine Bar on Wharf Street closed about a year ago. These shows also feature the return of Artistic Director Michael Levine from a brief sabbatical as he directs and peforms in the April show. The May performance consists of an abridgement of the Acorn Shakespeare Conservatory's production of Hamletdirected by Michael Howard and featuring Karen Ball in the title role. In the company's tradition, both shows present the text in an accessible manner that enourages the audience to place the characters in a modern context in order to better understand the universal themes at work in the language. Performances take place on April 14 and May 12 at 7:30pm, and are offered free of charge with an $8 suggested donation. Alliance Theatre to Host TODDLER TAKEOVER Arts Festival, 5/31-6/2

The Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum of Art, and Young Audiences are thrilled to present the inaugural TODDLER TAKEOVER: an arts festival for the very young, May 31-June 2, 2014, at the Woodruff Arts Center. This one of a kind experience will feature performances of all six original productions of the Alliance Theatre for the Very Young, the debut of the Atlanta Symphony's Music for the Very Young, side by side art making at the High Museum of Art, and an interactive play space hosted by Young Audiences artists.

LA Phil Announces 2014-15 Season at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Acorn Productions, a non-profit theater company based in the Dana Warp Mill in downtown Westbrook, produces the company's fourth Jewish-themed holiday production this December in the Acorn Studio Theater. Acorn's founder and Board member Michael Levine wrote the script, which takes a humorous look at a very common dilemma faced by modern couples: how to reconcile a fast-paced twenty-first century life with spiritual needs. Charlene and David lead a fast-paced urban lifestyle that leaves little room for their spiritual life. While Charlene and her mother busy themselves planning a wedding right out of 'Modern Bride' magazine, David decides to meet with a rabbi to discover his roots. An unexpected encounter with a restless spirit helps them discover what lies within their souls.
