Blue Note Jazz Festival Sets 2016 Lineup

With over 100 events in 10 venues throughout New York City, the 2016 Blue Note Jazz Festival will take place June 1-30. Ticket information and a current schedule of events is available on the official website, www.BlueNoteJazzFestival.com. Additional performances, venues, and events will be announced in the coming weeks.

Dale Head Set for Performing Arts Presenters Conference

Dale Head (dalehead.net), a jazz and blues powerhouse vocalist and trumpet player, today announced that he will be performing his blues and jazz tunes at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference (APAP) accompanied by a ten-piece orchestra. 'APAP is the world's largest forum for performing arts professionals with attendees coming from all around the world,' said Dale Head. 'I am passionate about my music and can't think of a better setting to bring back the amazing songs of some of our music legends.'

Mary Gatchell Set for Performance at Leddy Center October 2

Performing in concert at Leddy Center in Epping, Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30pm, Epping, NH native, Mary Gatchell, is a dynamic singer, pianist, and composer living in New York City.  With four albums to her credit and music video, Shining Star, she has delighted audiences with her velvety voice and alluring charm with a refreshing unique style all her own in legendary clubs such as the Blue Note, Birdland, Bitter End, CBGB's, Knitting Factory, Boston House of Blues, Ryles, and many more. She sang three concerts with the Rolling Stones on their 50th anniversary tour in Brooklyn's Barclays Center and Newark's Prudential Center. Mary studied voice, piano, and oboe at NYU, graduating Magna cum Laude, with a degree in theory and composition.

Drummer Dan Brubeck to Release 'Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Dave & Iola Brubeck,' 4/28

On his brilliantly realized new album 'Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Dave & Iola Brubeck,' drummer Dan Brubeck introduces his parents' remarkable and surprisingly little-known songbook. The second youngest of Dave and Iola Brubeck's six children, Dan has an extensive history of performing and recording alongside his famous pianist father Dave Brubeck and had long wanted to explore some of the songs and textual settings that his parents collaborated on over the years. The 2-CD set, which happens to be Dan's recording debut as a leader, will be released by Blue Forest Records on April 28.

Highlights include a free concert, Hot Dogs and Jazz, to kick off our new Family Series, several Latin Jazz performances to heat up the new year and the incredible Rodney Whitaker Quartet. Sunday Jam Sessions continue each Sunday evening, as well as mainstream and contemporary jazz concerts each weekend.

NJPAC Announces Sarah Vaughn Singing Competition Finalists

In 1942, a teenage Sarah Vaughan won the Apollo Theater's amateur singing competition in a legendary performance that served as a launching pad for a career that transformed one of America's original art forms and elevated the craft of jazz vocal music.

John Schreiber, NJPAC's President and CEO, and David Rodriguez, Executive Producer of the Arts Center, announced today a 2014-15 season packed with new, NJPAC- created, season-long series', collaborations with renowned artists and companies, an expansion of diverse programming, further integration of NJPAC's arts education programs within mainstage performances, and a continuation of the Arts Center's 17-year tradition of presenting world-class artists. With over 100 performances and special events announced for the acoustically superb 2,800- seat Prudential Hall, intimate 514-seat Victoria Theater, 250-seat Chase Room, and outdoors in Theater Square, by artists ranging from Patti LaBelle to The Metropolitan Opera Rising Stars; from Chris Botti to Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience; from Golda's Balcony with Tovah Feldshuh to the Brick City Jazz Orchestra; from Bela Fleck to Lula Washington Dance Theatre; from Beres Hammond to Audra McDonald; and from The Second City to Dinosaur Train Live!, NJPAC's new season has something for everyone.

Dave Stryker/Jay Anderson to Play the Seligmann Center for the Arts, Sugar Loaf NY Sun, Oct 20th 3PM

He's on the faculty of one of the most prestigious jazz education institutions in the country: Indiana University. He's spent years as a sideman for acclaimed jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. The Village Voice calls him '...one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in years.' He's been voted one of the Top Ten Guitarists by Down Beat Magazine's Reader's Poll. He's worked alongside such jazz luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Lovano and Eliane Elias. He's recorded nearly 25 albums as a leader and about that many more as a sideman with innumerable internationally recognized jazz artists. His name: Dave Stryker. He's one of the most in-demand bassists on the contemporary music scene today. He lives in the Hudson Valley. His first gigs were with Woody Herman and Carmen McRea. Having moved from California to New York, he's worked with Michael Brecker, Elian Elias, Michael Franks, Vic Juris, Adam Nussbaum, Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, Lee Konitz, Frank Zappa, Michel LeGrand Celine Dione (Gammy winning FALLING INTO YOU) and even poet, Allen Ginsberg. Beside all of those credentials, he is distinguished Professor of Jazz Bass Studies at Manhattan School of Music. His name: Jay Anderson. Although Mssrs. Stryker and Anderson have been colleagues for many years in large ensembles, their appearance strictly as a jazz duo will be their first. They appear Sunday, October 20th 3:00 p.m. at the platonic new Orange County performance space, Seligman Center for the Arts, 23 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf (Chester), New York.

4th Annual Uptown Charlotte Jazz Fest Returns to Charlotte, 6/21 & 22

The 4th Annual Uptown Charlotte Jazz Fest returns to the Queen City with the sounds and rhythms of some of the world's greatest jazz performers June 21-22, 2013, at the Time Warner Cable Uptown Ampitheatre (TWCUA). Following up a nearly sold-out 3rd year with record attendance, the festival has truly become a "destination event" for true jazz enthusiasts, attracting attendees all along the Southeast including Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

He has enjoyed a career on Broadway, television and film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls. On Valentine's Day this year, he joined the national TV phenomenon of Glee (along with Jeff Goldblum) to play one of Rachel's (Lea Michele) two Dads.
