Summer might mean break time for students or those planning vacations, but the warm weather just means lots of hot selection on Connecticut theater stages, especially during July.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City in the breathtaking musical, WEST SIDE STORY which opens at the Ivoryton Playhouse on July 5th. With book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the original 1957 Broadway production ran for over 700 performances before going on tour, and garnered 6 Tony nominations.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City in the breathtaking musical, WEST SIDE STORY which opens at the Ivoryton Playhouse on July 5th. Ivoryton Playhouse, in a new partnership with Water's Edge Resort,  will present a series of eight cabaret-style dinner theatre performances beginning Sunday, June 11th, written for and performed exclusively at Water's Edge.  This original series will showcase the professional talent of Ivoryton Playhouse performers and musicians in four unique events.

PlayMakers Repertory Company opened the final production of its 2016-17 season last night with "Mr. Joy," a work by award-winning playwright Daniel Beaty. As the final production of the second stage season at PRC2, Mr. Joy was directed by PlayMakers' Producing Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch and stars Tangela Large, who returns to PlayMakers after a successful turn in "Detroit '67" in Fall 2016.
