Violinist Daniel Hope to Perform at Hahn Hall, 7/5

Virtuoso violinist Daniel Hope - described as 'adventurous and brilliant' by The New York Times and 'a force to be reckoned with' by Gramophone - will lead a chamber orchestra of Academy faculty and Fellows in a program of works by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, Alfred Schnittke, Erwin Schulhoff, and Max Richter beginning at 8 pm on Saturday, July 5, in Hahn Hall. Mr. Hope will lead from the violin in performances of Biber's Passacaglia, Schnittke's A Paganini, Schulhoff's Solo Sonata, and Mr. Richter's enthralling Recomposed: Vivaldi's Four Seasons - a reimagining of the well-known Baroque masterpiece. Tickets cost $50.

Jewelry Designer Joan Hornig to Receive 2014 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, May 10

Philanthropist and jewelry designer Joan Hornig will receive the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award presented annually by The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) to Americans who have made it their mission to share with those less fortunate their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents and selfless generosity; all while maintaining the traditions of their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America. The awards will be presented May 10 on historic Ellis Island at an elegant ceremony and dinner that embodies the spirit of America in their celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity. Broadway's Ryan Silverman & Nikki Renee Daniels Join Detroit Symphony in Salute to Mad Men Era Program

Broadway stars Ryan Silverman and Nikki Renee Daniels joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Friday in its most recent pops program, 'The Cocktail Hour: Music of the Mad Men Era.' The program was created and conducted by Maestro Steven Reineke, Music Director of the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, and Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Performances run through March 16.

Moving Image to Screen FUN CITY: NEW YORK IN THE MOVIES 1967-75, Begin. Today

Movies filmed in New York City that tapped into the turmoil, chaos, and social and cultural energies of the late 1960s and early 1970s are the subject of the screening series Fun City: New York in the Movies 1967-75, curated by film critic and historian J. Hoberman. The series, which will be accompanied by a new monograph written by Hoberman, includes nineteen films, and will be presented by Museum of the Moving Image from August 10 through September 1. The films include established classics such as Rosemary's Baby, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy, and Dog Day Afternoon, as well as lesser known films such as The Angel Levine, Bye Bye Braverman, and Cotton Comes to Harlem.
