The smash-hit short-form theatre festival returns for the third year as part of HERE's Autumn Artist Lodge! Curated by Dominic D'Andrea, the two-program event will present over 80 plays all under sixty-seconds by some of the most exciting emerging and established writers in the American Theatre.

First Light Festival 2009 is a presentation of new works commissioned by the EST/Sloan Project, an initiative designed to stimulate artists to create credible and compelling work exploring the worlds of science and technology and to challenge the existing stereotypes of scientists and engineers in the popular imagination. Now in its eleventh season, The Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director) program has received proposals now numbering in the hundreds, and EST/Sloan has commissioned some two hundred projects for development with grants ranging from $500 to $10,000. Each season the EST/Sloan Project commissions and develops new works, and presents the results, at various stages from first readings to fully mounted productions, in the FIRST LIGHT Festival.

As part of her fellowship year, For her fellowship year, Heidi will be working on a new play inspired by her own experience as a reporter in Siberia and St. Petersburg; this new play questions the limits of friendship and explores the mythic power still ascribed to the relationship between t he United States and Russia.
Youngblood (will present Thicker Than Water 2008, the ninth collection of new plays by members of Youngblood. Performances begin on Sunday February 3rd, and continue through Saturday, March 1st at E.S.T. (549 West 52nd Street). This year's Youngblood series presents one-act plays and musicals all having their world premiere.
Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundaton have announced the 9th annual First Light Festival, which will run from March 28th through April 27th at E.S.T.
The sixth annual Midtown International Theatre Festival will play from July 18th to August 7th in a number of theatre spaces
