Liberty Hall Museum Expands Summer Programming for Children

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University will offer an interactive tour of the museum specifically geared for children ages 7 - 12 throughout the summer. In A Child's View of History, offered Tuesdays and Thursdays now through August 28 (11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.), young people will step back in time and see the museum through the eyes of its youngest former occupants: the children who resided at Liberty Hall over the past 240 years. Each room will feature a variety of artifacts children are welcome to touch, and tours will also include outdoor games, activities and light refreshments. Admission is $8 per child, and $10 per adult.

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University invites visitors to experience fine dining on the high seas without ever leaving shore at Dining on the Titanic (Saturday, June 21; Noon to 3 p.m.), an elegant luncheon saluting the unparalleled cuisine of history's most famous and ill-fated ship. Inspired by the Kean family's own multiple voyages on the RMS Titanic's sister ship, the RMS Olympic, Dining on the Titanic complements the museum's superb travel retrospective, Bon Voyage! 200 Years of Luxury Travel (open now through November 20).

Liberty Hall Museum will debut its new ongoing exhibit, Bon Voyage! 200 Years of Luxury Travel, when public tours resume Tuesday, April 1. 'We are excited to once again open the museum to the public with a brand new exhibit, Bon Voyage! 200 Years of Luxury Travel,' said Bill Schroh, Jr., Director of Museum Operations. 'This exhibit tells the stories of five different trips the Livingston and Kean families took between 1780 and 1950. Visitors will be amazed at the objects brought back from around the country and the world.' The exhibit, which incorporates personal diaries and letters from the museum's extensive collection of Livingston and Kean family documents, runs through November 20.

Marin Theatre Company, in association with Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, will stage August Wilson's Fences, the 1950s entry into his Century Cycle (also known as his Pittsburgh Cycle) - a decade-by-decade exploration of the black experience in 20th century America. Directed by Derrick Sanders, the Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award-winning play will feature veteran film and television actor Carl Lumbly as Troy Maxson, Steven Anthony Jones, the artistic director of Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, as Jim Bono and award-winning actor, playwright and director Margo Hall as Rose, as well as Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Eddy Ray Jackson as Cory, Adrian Roberts as Gabriel, Tyee Tilghman as Lyons and two Marin City youths - Jade Sweeney, who attends Willow Creek Academy, and Makaelah Bashir, Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy - splitting the role of Raynell.

Fifteen paintings that graphically portray the 17 months Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González—known as the Cuban Five—spent in the “hole” at the Miami Federal Detention Center after their 1998 arrests on trumped-up conspiracy charges. The integrity, creativity, and humor displayed by the Five strike a deep chord with working people in the US and elsewhere determined to resist the system of capitalist “justice.” With text by Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino.
