Red was first produced at the 250-seat Donmar Warehouse in London in December 2009, starring Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne. It picked up six Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Direction, and Best Performance by a Featured Actor (Redmayne), as well as three Drama Desk Awards, including Best Play.

Based on the memoir of stockbroker Jordan Belfort, the film will center on the financier's alternative life as a partying, drug addict who was indicted in 1998 for security fraud and money laundering and served a 22-month federal prison sentence.
