Full casting has been announced for Vivo D'Arte's upcoming promenade production of Jonathan Larson's Tony-Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical 'RENT' at the world's oldest working paper mill set to open next month

Vivo D'Arte's five-star promenade production of Jonathan Larson's RENT at the world's oldest mechanical paper mill have announced an extension of its successful and well-received production.

Austin Playhouse is thrilled to open its 2018 - 2019 season with the world premiere of Monroe by local playwright Dr. Lisa B. Thompson. The play was a winner of the Austin Playhouse Festival of New Texas Plays, receiving a staged reading in April 2018.

A new video has been released, filmed during the cast's sitzprobe, of Vivo D'Arte's immersive promenade production of Jonathan Larson's cult classic musical RENT. Staged at the world's oldest working paper mill, the production opens tonight. Watch the video below!

The program will feature the Philharmonic's American German Cultural Exchange Fellowship recipient, German pianist Danae Dorken performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-Flat Major, Opus 73, "Emperor."  In addition, the orchestra will perform Bernstein's Fancy Free: Three Dance Variations and close its 2017 - 2018 concert season with Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 in B-Flat Major, Opus 100.  Music Director Donato Cabrera will host his pre-concert conversation at 6:30 PM in Reynolds Hall for patrons interested in learning more about the music in the evening program.

Answering machines and public payphones may be things of the past, but the epic rock musical RENT still holds up to this day.

This week is going to be great! Do you know why? It's because the 20th Anniversary tour of one of the best modern musicals is headed to the Saenger tonight! RENT, written by Jonathan Larson, follows a group of artists as they face life living in East Village as they deal with love and loss at the height of the AIDS epidemic. It's a story that teaches audience how to live their life in the present because tomorrow isn't guaranteed. What a lesson!

Stage West is pleased to present the 11th Annual New Play Readings Festival on Sunday, April 22, at Stage West, 821 W. Vickery in Fort Worth.  Featured will be Dust, by Nicole Oglesby, the winner of the 11th Southwest Playwriting Competition; in addition, the Festival will feature readings of new works by Mat Smart (who wrote our 38th Season closer, The Royal Society of Antarctica) and Janielle Kastner, who just appeared as Karla in A Funny Thing Happened….  

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 9-14, 2018 in multiple locations throughout the Center. The Center also announced the national awardees for the KCACTF.

Trinity Repertory Company is proud to announce the commission of a number of new playwrights and artists, including George Brant to write the stage version of The New York Times bestseller The Prince of Providence: The Life and Times of Buddy Cianci, America's Most Notorious Mayor, Some Wiseguys, and the Feds by Mike Stanton. Trinity Rep obtained the underlying rights to the book from Stanton and subsequently commissioned Brant to create a play or musical adaptation. The resulting script will go through a series of workshops to prepare it for production on the Trinity Rep stage in a future season. Casting will be announced at a future date. The book, which came out in 2004, examines the life and notorious political story of Buddy Cianci, the two-term mayor whose corruption led to federal investigations.

On Monday, February 19, the Theater People podcast welcomes Broadway favorite Adam Kantor back to the podcast. Kantor, currently co-starring as Telephone Guy in the critically acclaimed new musical THE BAND'S VISIT shares stories of how he won the role, working with the creative team on creating the role, and perfecting his character's haunting and beautiful song 'Answer Me.'

Fourteen talented young musical theatre artists have landed roles in the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical, RENT, to be presented by Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and Matt Ward Entertainment, from 2 May 2018.

Trinity Repertory Company will open the heartwarming new comedy Into the Breeches! this month. Set in 1942 Providence, the play follows the women of the fictional Oberon Playhouse, who endeavor to continue with their Shakespearean production even though the company's men (including their director) are fighting overseas in World War II. The women's dedication to each other and the theater is a delightful celebration of art and community.
