Nicky Wood, a locally-grown budding producer, director, and performer, bids a fond farewell to his childhood home as he prepares to travel the world, pursuing international opportunities with Norwegian Cruise Lines Creative Studios. A 'bon voyage' dinner isn't Wood's cup of tea. The 22-year-old has set out to produce what he calls, 'he 'swan song' of the century,' a swinging, musical revue spectacular entitled: THE RAT PACK NEW YEAR'S CONCERT. Sir Richard Eyre's staging of Le Nozze di Figaro, with the action of Mozart's masterpiece relocated to 1930s Seville, returns to the Met on December 6 for 11 performances through to January 19, conducted by Harry Bicket. Initial performances feature soprano Christiane Karg making her Met debut as the maid Susanna, opposite bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as her fianc , the valet Figaro. Soprano Rachel Willis-S rensen stars as the Countess, a role she sang for her Met debut in the production in 2014, opposite bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni also reprising his interpretation as Count Almaviva, with mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi as his page, Cherubino.
At first blush, 'Disney's Beauty and the Beast' might appear an odd choice for a holiday show. But after seeing Sunset Playhouse's lavish, fun-filled and thoroughly entertaining production there's no doubt it was a wise choice. Plus, the transformation of the Beast is not unlike those in other holiday stories, like 'A Christmas Carol.'
