Goodspeed Sets Starry Group of Writing Teams for 2016 Mercer Writers Colony

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 36 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2016 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 19 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration. Harris Yulin Joins Cast of WP Theater's DEAR ELIZABETH

Women's Project Theater, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Managing Director Maureen Moynihan, announced today that Drama Desk nominee Harris Yulin (Hedda Gabler, Diary of Anne Frank) will return to play Robert Lowell opposite Lortel Award winner Mia Katigbak (Awake and Sing!) as Elizabeth Bishop from November 30 to December 5, 2015 in DEAR ELIZABETH, the inaugural production at the WP's new theatrical home the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, 2162 Broadway (at 76th Street).

The New Group's STEVE, Directed by Cynthia Nixon, Opens Tonight Off-Broadway

The New Group presents the world premiere of STEVE, a new play by Mark Gerrard. Directed by Cynthia Nixon, this production features Ashlie Atkinson and Francisco Pryor Garat, and as announced, Mario Cantone, Jerry Dixon, Malcolm Gets and Matt McGrath. A limited Off-Broadway engagement plays now through December 27 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street), with Official Opening Night set for tonight, November 18.

Producers Al Corley ("Dynasty") and Marty Kaplan have announced the world premiere of PHALARIS'S BULL: SOLVING THE RIDDLE OF THE GREAT BIG WORLD, conceived and performed by Steven Friedman and directed by David Schweizer, will play a strictly limited 5 week engagement from December 12, 2015 to January 16, 2016 at The Beckett Theater at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street.

Tony Roberts will celebrate his new memoir DO YOU KNOW ME? - which reveals the story of his legendary five-decade career on stage and screen - with an in-store reading and book signing at The Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street) on Tuesday, December 15 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Phylicia Rashad to Return to The Public in HEAD OF PASSES This Spring

BroadwayWorld is excited to report initial casting for The Public Theater's New York premiere of HEAD OF PASSES, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by Tina Landau. Phylicia Rashad returns to The Public to play 'Shelah' in this deeply moving new drama about family, acceptance, and the power of faith. Rashad last appeared at The Public in THE STORY by Tracey Scott Wilson in 2003. HEAD OF PASSES begins previews on Tuesday, March 15 in the Newman Theater with an official press opening on Monday, March 28.

Julia Murney to Cover ONE DIRECTION and More at Feinstein's/54 Below, November 19-21

Julia Murney returns to Feinstein's/54 Below for her first solo show since 2012 and will be joined by Will van Dyke and the Whiskey 5! Julia's soaring voice and meaningful interpretations of Broadway and beyond make her a fan favorite on the Great White Way. She'll be covering songs by, among others, Maureen McGovern, Bonnie Raitt, Sara Bareilles, and One Direction. Yes, One Direction.
