Oakland Symphony to Present LOST ROMANTICS, Today

Oakland, CA, September 8, 2015 – Music Director a Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony continue their 2015/2016 seastoday, November 13, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre with a program entitled Lost Romantics.The evening will feature the debut of 2015 James Toland Voice Competition winner Brent Turner, tenor, and the return of gifted young pianist Llewellyn Werner-Sanchez. The program includes the rarely performed 1895 Symphony No. 3 of “lost” Romantic composer Victor Bendix and Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Mr. Sanchez Werner—who was featured in 2015 on the Symphony's Notes from Mexico concert. Mr. Turner will perform Lehar's Freunde, das Leben is lebenswert from Giuditta and Dein ist mein ganzes Herz from Das Land des Lachelns, and Offenbach's Au mont Ida, trois Déesses from La Belle Hélène. Completing the program will be the Bach/Stokowski Toccata and Fugue in D minor, which served as the opening work in Disney's groundbreaking and visionary 1940 film Fantasia, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. No-host drinks and a pre-concert talk will begin at 7 pm and there will be free lobby entertainment and informal intermission talks with orchestra musicians at the foot of the stage. SAN FRANCISCO (October 12, 2015) –– San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald announced today the twelve recipients of the 2016 Adler Fellowship, a multi-year performance-oriented residency offering advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Adler Fellows are selected from the young artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program. This prestigious training program has nurtured the development of more than 150 young artists since its inception.

Opera San Jose to Continue Season with World Premiere of WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD

Opera San José continues its 31st season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Where Angels Fear to Tread by American composer Mark Lanz Weiser, libretto by Roger Brunyate. This bold new opera, based on the novel by E. M. Forster, unveils a collision of cultures that leads to a misunderstanding of horrific consequences, set in motion when a rich English widow marries a middle-class but handsome young Italian against the wishes of her family. Where Angels Fear to Tread will be sung in English with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled February 7 through 22 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San José Box Office, online at operasj.org or by phone at (408) 437-4450. Performances are supported, in part, by a grant from the San José Office of Cultural Affairs.

The Washington National Opera Announces the Roster for the 13th Season of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced the roster of emerging artists and renowned vocal coaches engaged for the 13th season of its Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. Under the leadership of program director Michael Heaston, the Domingo- Cafritz Young Artist Program continues to increase its number of performances throughout the season and expand its training regimen to include mentorship by its returning Artist in Residence, the acclaimed American soprano Deborah Voigt. Additional faculty members include voice teachers Diana Soviero and William Stone; guest vocal coaches Be?ne?dicte Jourdois, Kathleen Kelly, and Danielle Orlando; career consultants Ken Benson and Matthew Epstein; and guest drama coaches Peter Kazaras and Alan Paul, among others.
