Court Theatre Presents 'Radio MacBeth'

Court Theatre continues its 2008/09 season with SITI Company's Radio Macbeth adapted from the play by Shakespeare and co-directed by SITI Company Artistic Director Anne Bogart and Darron L. West. The production will run November 6, 2008 - December 7, 2008 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue. The press opening will be Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.

Minghella Directed 'Madama Butterfly' Returns to the Stage Starting 10/24

The Met's acclaimed production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, directed by the late Academy Award-winning film director Anthony Minghella, returns to the stage for twelve performances beginning Friday, October 24, 2008. Reprising their portrayals in the production this season are sopranos Patricia Racette and Cristina Gallardo-Domâs in the title role, tenors Roberto Aronica and Marcello Giordani as Pinkerton, and baritone Dwayne Croft as Sharpless. Patrick Summers conducts the opera for the first time at Met.
New York Festival of Song Presents 'Fugitives' 11/18

New York Festival of Song, whose recent 'A Bernstein/Bolcom Celebration' was performed with 'Comic and dramatic flair,'(The New York Times) presents Fugitives, songs by composers who fled Hitler's Europe, on November 18 and 20 at the newly restored Merkin Concert Hall in New York. The program will feature music from Broadway, the concert stage and Berlin cabaret by Kurt Weill, Erich Korngold, Alexander Zemlinsky and many others.

Franco Zeffirelli's lavish production of Verdi's poignant masterpiece about love and sacrifice, La Traviata, returns to the Metropolitan Opera stage on October 20 for nine performances through November 20, 2008. Anja Harteros sings the title role for the first time at the Met.

Cabrillo Music Theatre of Thousand Oaks, Calif proudly kicks off the new 2008-2009 season by announcing that Deborah Gibson will star in Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic, 'The King and I'. Cabrillo Music Theatre's Artistic Director Lewis Wilkenfeld will direct, while Darryl Archibald will serve as Musical Director and Conductor. The production will feature the original Jerome Robbins choreography of the 'Small House of Uncle Thomas' Ballet, recreated by Irene Cho, who performed the piece under Robbins' supervision in 'The King and I' and 'Jerome Robbins' Broadway'.

Deborah Voigt takes on the title role in Ponchielli's grand, passionate drama, La Gioconda, for the first time in the United States and only the second time in her career. She is joined by Olga Borodina as her rival, Laura, and, in the role of La Cieca, Polish contralto Ewa Podleś, who returns to the Met for the first time since 1984. The cast also includes Aquiles Machado as Enzo, Carlo Guelfi as Barnaba, and, in his Met debut, Orlin Anastassov as Alvise. Conductor Daniele Callegari makes his Met debut. Performances run from September 24 through October 9, 2009.

Smith Joins 'Tristan and Isolde' Cast

Robert Dean Smith will make his Met debut on Saturday, March 22, singing the role of Tristan in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. The performance, which begins at 12:30 p.m/ET, will be transmitted live to movie theaters around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series. Ben Heppner, who was originally slated to sing that performance, is still recovering from an illness, and is scheduled to sing on Tuesday, March 25 and Friday, March 28.
