Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, opens its 2015-16 season in December 2015 with New Dances: Edition 2015 featuring four world premiere dances by innovative choreographers Helen Simoneau (First-Year Dancers); Aszure Barton (Second-Year Dancers); Zvi Gotheiner (Third-Year Dancers); and Kyle Abraham (Fourth-Year Dancers).

On the heels of the Kozlova International Ballet Competition is the Annual Gala of Kozlova's Dance Conservatory, her school located in midtown Manhattan.    The young dancers will celebrate both classical and contemporary works at the performance, which will include excerpts from the classics, La Sylphide, La Bayadere, Le Corsair, and others, as well as contemporary dances and an except from Margo Sappington's sassy 'For Ella.'   Friday June 19th at 7 PM at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway.

Juilliard Dances Repertory artistic director Lawrence Rhodes fused together an evocative evening, a masterful juxtaposition of opposites, ruminating on the perennial themes of tradition and modernity through dance.

Juilliard Dances Repertory presents masterworks by acclaimed choreographers Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. Juilliard dancers perform Martha Graham's Dark Meadow and Merce Cunningham's BIPED. Aaron Sherber will conduct the Juilliard musicians performing the music live with the dancers for Dark Meadow.

Steps on Broadway, one of New York's premiere dance studios, has announced that the Steps Beyond Foundation, its educational and presenting program, has received non-profit status, enabling the organization to provide more services and support to the artistic community.

Mr. Keigwin is returning to Juilliard where he previously choreographed and premiered, in December 2008, Runaway, a large-scale piece that riffs on the high fashion runway scene, and, in December 2009, Megalopolis.

New York City Center's 11th annual Fall for Dance Festival will feature free performances in Central Park and 24 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, in six unique programs in September and October 2014. In keeping with the Festival's commitment to make dance accessible to everyone, the Festival will kick off with two FREE evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, in association with The Public Theater, today and tomorrow, September 12 and 13 (rain date, September 14) and will continue at City Center from October 8 - October 19 with all tickets at $15. The Festival's many free pre-show events will include dance lessons and panels by choreographers, artists and dance educators. Tickets will go on sale Sunday, September 14 at 11 a.m.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary year, Works & Process at the Guggenheim is pleased to announce its fall 2014 season, including three offsite programs presented in collaboration with El Museo del Barrio and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

Cherylyn Lavagnino has an MFA in Dance from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, as well as a BA in Philosophy from USC. Lavagnino toured nationally as a soloist with the Pennsylvania Ballet. She has performed a range of classical repertoire and contemporary work by choreographers including Balanchine, John Butler, Hans Van Manen, and Tere O'Connor, and the diversity of these experiences has informed the dialogue between classical and contemporary in her work with Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance. Ms. Lavagnino has created over forty works in the past fifteen years, and since 2000 the platform for her choreography has been Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance. Many of those works were created in collaboration with composers Scott Killian and Jane Chung. CLD continues to support a Live Music and Dance incentive their performances. Lavagnino's choreography has been presented in New York City: by Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, Dance Theater Workshop, Symphony Space, DanceNow/NYC, Kaatsban International Dance Center and The Joyce Theatre's 'Evening Stars' series. Ms. Lavagnino is an Alpert Award nominee for choreography and recipient of a space grant residency from the Baryshnikov Arts Center. Her choreography has been supported by the American Music Center's, Live Music for Dance grant and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Manhattan Creative Communities Fund.

All three dances were choreographed between 1979 and 1986, and Juilliard dancers have had the opportunity to learn the dances through intensive work with two of the choreographers - Eliot Feld and Lar Lubovitch - and with Juilliard alumna Shelley Washington, an original member of the cast of Twyla Tharp's work.

It's always a pleasure watching developing dancers. You can say you knew and saw them when. That's was my reaction after watching Juilliard Dance: New Dances Plus Edition 2013 this past Sunday. On the other hand, my response to the dances themselves did not propel me into critical encomiums, and I place the blame on Lawrence Rhodes, a truly outstanding dance educator. He didn't do anything bad-he just made a mistake.

Northrop at the University of Minnesota presents Hubbard Dance Street Chicago tonight, Sep 21 at 8:00 pm at the State Theatre as the opening performance in the 2013-14 Northrop dance season.
