Season ten of American Idol has introduced many welcomed changes that have revamped the show for the better. As previously announced this year, this time around we won't see the contestants tackle artist specific challenges as much as we will genre centric themes. Only five times in the show's history have Idol finalists gone retro with the sounds of Motown (not since season eight), and tonight they got to tackle the classic music yet again.
Theories have been circulating this week about how Idol fans need not wait until Thursday nights to figure out who will be voted off America's favorite reality competition. As quite a few publications have recently pointed out, the number of twitter followers each contestant has collected is a pretty clear indication of who is here to stay.
In tonight's episode of American Idol, the top 12 got to take a stab at one of the most popular themes in the history of the show- song's from the year they were born. And this episode marked the very first live performance episode (no fake outs this time).
Last week, for the first time ever, studio versions of the full-length songs performed by Season 10's Top 13 finalists went on sale exclusively on the iTunes Store as a compilation album, and the release was a Top 10 seller on the iTunes album chart. This week, the 'American Idol Top 12 Season 10' album compilation will go on sale once again exclusively on the iTunes Store at 10pm PST following tonight's 'American Idol.' Individual songs will also be available for sale.
In yet another season 10 twist from American Idol, tonight's top 13 performances were pre-taped...again. A FOX rep told People magazine, 'We have pre-taped shows at this stage of the competition before ... although it's rare.' Why the hold up, you ask? This being only the second time in Idol history that there are 13 finalists instead of 12, producers wanted to make sure all of the performance fit into the 2 hour time slot.
It's one of the most common rejections on American Idol: 'Sorry, but you're better suited for Broadway.' But as we've seen over the past ten years, American Idol and the Broadway stage are not mutually exclusive - not by a long shot! In fact, it's the opposite: every single season of the show has either borrowed talent from the New York theatre or created stars that have rocked musicals on Broadway and/or on national tours across the country.
Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom. The show's judges travel across the country in search of the next AMERICAN IDOL. They winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week in front of a studio audience and television viewers.
