KANSAS CITY, MO (January 6, 2015) — Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced the choreographers chosen for New Moves, a unique performance event designed to search out, develop and showcase emerging choreographers, both from the national dance scene as well as locally within Kansas City Ballet. New Moves is presented to provide time and space for choreographers to create world premiere works with accomplished professional dancers. New Moves will feature choreographers Robert Dekkers, Andrea Schermoly and Kelly Ann Sloan, plus Kansas City Ballet artists Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye, Travis Guerin and Jill Marlow.

Through the generous support of the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, The Dance Enthusiast has created the series Enthusiastic Events! A cross between a salon performance and a gathering at your best friend's home, renowned dance artists and prime movers from diverse fields will meet their audience in an intimate setting. Each event is themed and will include live performances from premier artists in the NYC dance world, feature special guests and presenters who work outside of dance but are highly influenced by the artform, and is paired with a guest chef who will create a unique menu related to the theme.

Elisa Monte Dance (EMD) announced last night at a reception in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood that Elisa Monte will retire as the artistic director from the company that she has built, grown and established as a beacon of modern movement over its 34-years. Dancers, board members and important key players in the company's history, stood beside Elisa as she named Tiffany Rea-Fisher, long time dancer, Associate Artistic Director and Director of Operations as her successor, effective at the culmination of EMD's 35th season in spring of 2016. The announcement followed a private tour of the Fashion Institute of Technology's Dance & Fashion exhibition, where repertory costumes created by Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa for Monte's 2008 work Slope of Enlightenment are currently being showcased.

The Brooklyn-based composer Paola Prestini's work has been deemed "radiant [and] amorously evocative" by The New York Times, which has also hailed "her gift for bringing together disparate artists, technicians and other creative professionals to produce cross-disciplinary works greater than the sum of their parts." Her multimedia opera Oceanic Verses perfectly reveals her sensibility as a composer, a creator of multimedia productions, and a wholeheartedly entrepreneurially artist. She commissioned the work through her non-profit company, VisionIntoArt (VIA), whose new label, VIA Records, will release Prestini's music and collaborator Ali Hossaini's visuals as a beautifully designed CD/DVD package on November 18.

The internationally renowned Lar Lubovitch Dance Company returned to The Joyce Theater October 15-19, 2014. The program was entitled Ancient Tales, and the company presented two works based on ancient myths and folk stories from which fairy tales were formed.
