Shortened Attention Span Presents THE GAY AGENDA 3/25

Shortened Attention Span is proud to present The Gay Agenda, your semi-favorite-musical-theatre-punk-band, in their solo performance debut, THE GAY AGENDA'S Great Big Broadway Show! Combining the sharp rhymes and lush melodies of classic musical theatre with the manic, off-kilter energy of Kiki & Herb, The Gay Agenda promises an evening of storytelling songs sure to delight and offend the twisted, sentimental show queen in all of us. La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club presents Abigail Nessen Bengson's whirlwind one-act solo performance, The Magic Show: The Story of the Barefoot Angels, at their downtown theater (74A East 4th Street) for a strictly limited engagement beginning Friday, April 10th. La MaMa to Present US Premiere of 'Tonight: Lola Blau' Mar. 13 - 22

From March 13 to 22, The Club at La MaMa E.T.C. will present the U.S. premiere of 'Tonight: Lola Blau,' written and composed by Georg Kreisler, English version by Don White, directed by Dick Top (Holland), featuring Anna Kr?mer (Germany) as Lola. This U.S. premiere is an opportunity for NY audiences to savor one of Europe's 'big little' musicals and its unforgettable holocaust themes. The piece depicts a rising, charismatic, Dietrich-style cabaret singer who is forced to flee Austria because of her Jewish heritage, taking refuge in the U.S. She makes do with 'survival jobs' on Tin Pan Alley until her sensational return to her homeland after the war, when she discovers that nothing much has changed.

ANGELA'S MIXTAPE Comes To New Georges 4/6-5/2

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Associate Director), the OBIE Award-winning downtown theater company founded in 1992, and Hip-Hop Theater Festival will present the premiere of OBIE Winning Actress/Pulitzer-nominated playwright Eisa Davis' 'ANGELA'S MIXTAPE,' directed by Liesl Tommy. Ms. Davis who was recently seen on Broadway in last season's award-winning musical Passing Strange will portray herself and Linda Powell, last seen on Broadway in the Tony-nominated revival On Golden Pond, will portray her aunt, professor and activist Angela Davis. 'ANGELA'S MIXTAPE' will be performed at the Ohio Theatre, 66 Wooster Street (between Spring and Broome Streets). Previews begin Monday, April 6, and the official Opening Night will be Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. Performances will run through May 2.

BAGHDADI BATH Premieres At La MaMa E.T.C. 3/12-3/15

U.S. PREMIERE FOR 'BAGHDADI BATH' BY JAWAD AL-ASSADI, LEADING EXPATRIATE PLAYWRIGHT OF IRAQ In a Turkish bath in Baghdad, two brothers reveal the everyday horror of surviving in a war zone. Zishan Ugurlu directs. From March 12 to 15, La MaMa E.T.C., in association with Actors without Borders-ITONY, will present the U.S. premiere of 'Baghdadi Bath' by Jawad al-Assadi, Iraq's best-known playwright and recipient of the Prince Claus Award for his dedication to freedom of cultural expression.

La MaMa E.T.C. Premieres COMING, APHRODITE!, Runs Thru 3/8

La MaMa E.T.C. and Watson Arts invites everyone to the World Premiere of COMING, APHRODITE! This new musical adapted from the novella by Willa Cather is written and directed by Mary Fulham with lyrics by FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award winner Paul Foglino (Hercules in High Suburbia), and music by Mark Ettinger. Performances run through March 8 at La MaMa (74A East 4th Street). COMING, APHRODITE! is a love story about a man, a woman, and a dog that explores the pursuit of art and the nature of success. A painter, Don Hedger and his dog, Caesar, live in a one-room apartment. Their daily life is upended when Eden Bower, an aspiring actress who likes to sing show tunes and exercise in the nude, moves in next door.

HAIR 'Lets the Sun Shine In on Broadway', Previews Begin March 6, 2009

Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

'Shekinah,' a new dark comedy by Charles Case, directed by Peter S. Case, peels open the world of post-WWI spiritualist con artists. 'Shekinah,' a new dark comedy by Charles Case, revolves around the tragic, humorous and desperate lives of early twentieth century spiritualists. People who lost loved-ones to WWI or a child to polio made especially easy prey for these practitioners of mystic bunkum, who would abuse the desperate and those whose desperation made them blind. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the play in its First Floor Theater March 5 to 22, directed by Peter S. Case.
