The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ present the 16th annual benefit concert in support of the United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ (UJA) today, April 21, at 3 pm, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark. Clarinetist David Krakauer joins the Orchestra for Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, along with traditional klezmer works Synagogue Wail and Der Heyser Bulgar. Guest conductor Stefan Sanderling leads the Orchestra in the one-performance-only program, which opens with Copland's Appalachian Spring.
Today, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra ('ROCO') will present 'Big Bang!' with dynamic guest conductor Andre Raphel and the 40-piece River Oaks Chamber Orchestra. Featuring traditional classics by Mendelssohn and Respighi paired with bombastic drums, the ROCO season finale will be a blast for classical music aficionados and families alike. ROCO will present the Houston premiere of a commissioned double percussion concerto by internationally-acclaimed composer Jonathan Leshnoff, performed by percussionists Matt McClung and Todd Meehan. And in ROCO fashion, there will be a surprise or two!
Glenn Carter* (Jersey Boys, Jesus Christ Superstar, Whistle down the Wind), Stephen Rahman Hughes* (Emmerdale, Dream Team, Bombay Dreams, West Side Story), David Thaxton (Passion, Les Miserables) and Matt Willis (Wicked, Flashdance, Footloose and BRIT award winning member of Busted), join the previously announced Lee Mead (Wicked, Legally Blonde, BBC Series Winner of Any Dream Will Do) to complete The West End Men. All four will be joined by special guest star Kerry Ellis* (Wicked, Oliver, We Will Rock You, Born Free Tour with Brian May) for the limited run at the Vaudeville Theatre from 25 May to 22 June.
The 2013 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will return for the 48th season with five free outdoor concerts, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (July 10); Cunningham Park, Queens (July 11); the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan (July 13 and 15); and Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx (July 16). In addition, the New York Philharmonic Brass will give a Free Indoor Concert at the Center for the Arts, College of Staten Island, CUNY (July 14).

New York Philharmonic Principal Cello Carter Brey will perform Bach's Complete Cello Suites at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church tonight, March 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. This program marks Carter Brey's first time performing Bach's Cello Suites as a complete set.
