Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, has been awarded a 2017 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The $20,000 grant will support the world premiere production of Faceless, written by Selina Fillinger. Faceless was developed through Northlight's Interplay Program, an initiative that invests in provocative new works by American and international playwrights, providing customized support in the critical stages of early play development.

Red Bull Theater presents their next Revelation Reading tonight, December 5th, at 7:30pm at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street).

 Royal Family Productions (Chris Henry, Artistic Director) will present a stage reading of Keenan Scott II's Thoughts of a COLORED MAN on a day when the sun set too early,  directed by Chris Henry  as part of its developmental series.  The reading will take place on Saturday, December 3 at 2pm at the Royal Family Performing Arts Space (145 West 46th Street, 3rd Floor). Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice is poised between two Empires - The Sceptered Isle and La Serenissima. In honor of the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare and the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Venetian ghetto, The Floor of Heaven interweaves moments from Shakespeare's complex and revolutionary text with the play's original music and songs from the English-Venetian soundscape that Shakespeare's characters would have played and heard.

Throughout the 2016-17 season, the sound artist and master storyteller Nate DiMeo-whose popular podcast, The Memory Palace, a finalist for the 2016 Peabody Awards, paints vivid, poetic pictures of episodes in American history-will animate The Met by interrogating the collection to draw out the revealing secrets and stories of the art.

Detroit Public Theatre will bring the regional premiere of Colman Domingo's Dot to Detroit November 16 - December 11.

Just last night, Sarah Ruhl was honored with the 2016 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award  at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The evening featured performances of Ruhl's work by Blair Brown, Kathleen Chalfant, Maria Dizzia, Jessica Hecht, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Polly Noonan and Joseph J. Parks.
