Poetic Theater Productions (Jeremy Karafin and Alex Mallory, Co-Artistic Directors) kicks off its 5th season August 18-20 at Wild Project with Conscious Language: conversation and performance on the power of the spoken word curated by emcee/playwright muMs (HBO's 'Oz', upcoming "A Sucker Emcee" at LAByrinth Theater Company) and featuring poet/musician Saul Williams (Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me, "Slam"), playwrights Jose Rivera (Marisol, "The Motorcycle Diaries") and Dominique Morisseau (Detroit 67, Sunset Baby), poet/recording artist Ursula Rucker (She Said, Ruckus Soundsysdom, 3 albums with The Roots), director/producer Kamilah Forbes (Sunset Baby, 'Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry', Hip Hop Theatre Festival) and more. Speaking about his impulse to create Conscious Language, muMs says 'My hope is that this festival will be the beginning of an important discussion about the responsibility we have as artists to our community'. In theme with Conscious Language, the Wild Project lobby will host an exhibition of work by influential graffiti artist BOM5.

Sundance Institute today announced the nine projects selected to participate in its 2014 Theatre Lab, July 7-27 at the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Lab is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community and is one of 10 residential labs the Institute will host for artists this summer, collectively representing the most promising new independent theatre and film projects.

HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME, written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Kenny Leon, blazes to life in a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope. Inner city lives struggle for peace against the daily challenges they face in this entertaining and original musical. Through the poetry of one of the 20th century's most influential and culturally prominent voices, we are given a window into realities of the streets still relevant today. The show opened just last week, June 19 at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at 47th Street), and BroadwayWorld was on the red carpet to capture all of the opening night fashions! HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED, DETROIT '67 and More Set for True Colors Theatre's 2014-15 Season

Artistic Director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company have announced the 2014-2015 season, opening in October with August Wilson's personal story How I Learned What I Learned co-conceived and directed by longtime Wilson collaborator Todd Kreidler. Following How I Learned What I Learned, True Colors will produce the 2014 Kennedy Award Winner for Drama, Dominique Morisseau's Detroit '67 directed by Hi-ARTS Artistic Director Kamilah Forbes, opening in February and running through March 2015. The season will close in July with Kevin Ramsey's Chasin' dem Blues a musical about the history of Paramount Records.

People's Light & Theatre has announced its 40th Anniversary Season that celebrates the passion and artistry that created and sustained our company. The season includes one world premiere, two regional premieres, and one Philadelphia premiere. Nationally acclaimed artists Mary McDonnell, David Strathairn, and Victor Williams will join longtime company members and various newcomers on our stages. They will perform iconic works by August Wilson, Anton Chekhov, and Neil Simon, new plays by Bruce Graham, Bill Cain, and Jessica Dickey, and our new holiday panto by Pete Pryor and Samantha Bellomo. We will transport audiences to Merlin's Middle Ages, Ranyevskaya's changing Russia, 19th & 21st Century Gettysburg, and Lou's Bar in today's South Philly.

Labyrinth Theater Company (Artistic Director Mimi O'Donnell, Managing Director Danny Feldman), the award-winning, downtown ensemble, announced today Sunset Baby, written by Dominique Morisseau, has extended its run at the Bank Street Theater (155 Bank Street), by popular demand. Sunset Baby, originally scheduled to run through December 6, 2013, will now play its final performance on December 15, 2013.
