The New York Philharmonic, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, will perform the New York Premiere of the groundbreaking, theatrical Kraft, by Magnus Lindberg, the Orchestra's Marie-Josée Kravis Composer-in-Residence, Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, October 8, at 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. The program will also include Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Sibelius's Violin Concerto, with Joshua Bell as soloist.
Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell and have joined the Board of Directors of the New York Philharmonic. The internationally known violinists, both of whom have long associations
with the Orchestra, were voted onto the Board for an indefinite term at the Board's final meeting of the 2009-10 season. They will serve in an advisory capacity with full voting
rights, without a mandatory financial obligation. This is the first time in the
Philharmonic's nearly 170-year history that leading guest artists have served on its Board
of Directors.

The event will take place at Westport Country Playhouse (25 Powers Court, Westport). Entitled 'The Malloy Lecture in the Arts: Remembering Archie (Archibald MacLeish-The Poet and the Man), as told by Christopher Plummer,' the evening will feature Emmy and Tony award-winning actor Christopher Plummer, who will combine MacLeish's poetry with his personal reminiscences of the poet. The Philadelphia Orchestra celebrates its 30-year musical partnership with Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit in the 2010-11 season. Highlights of Mr. Dutoit's nine subscription weeks with the Orchestra include the 2010-11 Opening Night with violinist Joshua Bell; the U.S. premiere of James MacMillan's Violin Concerto, co-commissioned by the Orchestra, with Vadim Repin; the world premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff's Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Jeffrey Khaner; and Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust with mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and tenor Paul Groves. Mr. Dutoit also leads the Orchestra in three performances at New York's Carnegie Hall and a performance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
