Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts to Present Black Violin, 11/22

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 60th Anniversary Season on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 2pm with Black Violin. Three-time winners of Amateur Night at the Apollo, this classically trained violin duo inspires young people to get fired up about classical music with their unique fusion of classical, hip-hop, jazz, blues, and R&B. Recommended for ages eight and up. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm).

Pete Wentz and Wisconsin Girl, 9, to Open MDA Telethon, Sunday on ABC

The Muscular Dystrophy Association's 2014 National Goodwill Ambassador Reagan Imhoff of New Berlin, Wis., is set to open the 49th MDA Show of Strength Telethon alongside Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz this Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Aug. 31, 9/8c, on ABC television stations across the country.

Diane Warren To Be Honored By Point Foundation

Point Foundation (Point) will present its Leadership Award to songwriter Diane Warren, whose work has been recognized with Grammy and Golden Globe awards and multiple Academy Award nominations. The Point Leadership Award is given to an individual who has achieved prominence in their professional career and unequivocally supported the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. Warren has repeatedly spoken out against bigotry of all kinds, including discrimination directed at the LGBTQ community. The 'It Gets Better' musical theater project that is touring the U.S. in support of LGBTQ youth includes songs of Warren's alongside those of Gnarls Barkley, Kelly Clarkson and Alanis Morissette.

Yesterday, America's national Independence Day celebration kicked off the festivities for our country's 238(th) birthday with an all-star salute led by Tom Bergeron (DANCING WITH THE STARS). Broadcast live on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the event featured performances by: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Frankie Valli; Grammy Award-winning music legend Patti LaBelle; platinum recording artist and songwriter Philip Phillips; multi-platinum recording artist and actress Jordin Sparks; the world-famous Muppets; five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Michael McDonald; country music superstar Sara Evans; singer-songwriter Kendall Schmidt from Big Time Rush and HEFFRON DRIVE; and five-time Tony Award nominee and Broadway star Kelli O'Hara; with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.
