The American Theatre Wing is now accepting applications for its 2009 SpringboardNYC Program, to be held on June 1 - 12, 2009 in New York City. At this two week college-to-career transition program, students have the opportunity to participate in training sessions and workshops in preparation for finding jobs in the New York theatre community while living in New York. Taught by industry professionals, sessions include on-your-feet audition training with directors and casting directors and seminars with the industry's leading agents and managers, as well as intimate conversations with working actors.

Broadway Artists Alliance, the dynamic not-for-profit educational organization that is quickly gaining a reputation for ensuring the future of great Broadway talent by bringing together Broadway artists and promising young performers, presented their annual Winter Musical Theatre Workshop February 14th through 16th. Michael Cerveris, currently starring in Hedda Gabler, surprised the students with a visit. Seth Rudetsky moderated the Q&A.

Featured in the star-studded evening are performers from stage & screen - all to benefit equal right organizations including: Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force.

The special star-studded evening will feature performers from stage & screen - from Saturday Night Live to Spring Awakening - all to benefit Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force. 100% of the profits from this spectacular event will be donated directly to Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force, five charitable organizations working to promote equality and protect civil rights for the gay and lesbian community. Defying Inequality: The Broadway Concert, A Celebrity Benefit for Equal Rights, is produced by 4Good Productions, the same presenters of the 2005 event Broadway's Celebrity Benefit for Hurricane Relief at the Gershwin Theatre. Featuring over 200 Broadway performers, the 2005 event raised more than $200,000 in just one night. There will be a benefit concert at the Laurie Beechman Theater At West Bank Cafe to honor Fulton Opera House's late artistic director, Michael Mitchell. Mitchell passed away in September of 2008. The event will be held on January 25 at 7pm. Tony nominee Jonathan Groff will be among the performers, the cast will also include Rachel Coloff, Jenna Coker-Jones, Christopher Kale Jones, Lyndy Franklin, Gregg Goodbrod, Matt Gibson, Michael McGuirk, Matt Simpkins, Tara Bruno, Jessica Kademenos, Mark Fisher, Steph Wilberding, Julia Osborne, Chris York, Harold Barnard, Nathaniel Shaw, Chris Crowthers, Eric Neher, Eric Ulloa, Michael Strassheim, Nicky Venditti, Gavin Waters, Scott Sussman, Stephanie Lynne-Mason, and Danny Gardner. Several alumni from productions that Mitchell directed for the Fulton will perform. Proceeds benefit the Michael Mitchell Endowment, supporting his legacy of theater produced at the Fulton.

After the cast gave the final bows, it was time to celebrate the music, memories and magic that was Spring Awakening. Current cast members, show alumni and the creative team headed to Bond 45 on 45th St. to get the bittersweet yet joyous festivites started and 'not do sadness', BroadwayWorld tagged along to join in the emotional closing night party. Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's Spring Awakening, the first musical to be presented by the Atlantic Theater Company, opened June 15th 2006 for a limited run through July 9th at the Atlantic Theater Company (336 West 20th Street). The show, in its world premiere production, began previews on May 19th, from the very first performance audiences knew something special was happening. Spring Awakening, Broadway's Tony Award-winning musical held a special benefit concert to support SafePlace. The December 15th concert featured the current cast of the Broadway show as well as special guests, original cast members Tony-Award nominee Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and Lili Cooper.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre, located within The West Bank Caf? (407 West 42nd St.), is pleased to continue our Friday night soiree, THE AFTER PARTY. Now going strong it's third, THE AFTER PARTY is billed as 'a weekly schmoozefest for the theatrically inclined.' Tonight Friday, December 12th, they welcome the cast of Prayer For My Enemy, including Tony Award winner Victoria Clark, Tony Award winner Michelle Pawk, Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff, Skipp Sudduth, Theatre World Award winner Cassie Beck, and Zachary Booth. All will be in attendance and Jonathan Groff and Skip Sudduth will perform. The evening will also feature performances by former Bette Midler 'Harlette' and Hairspray's Charlotte Crossley and The Larry King Orchestra's LARRY KING. All will be on hand to greet fans.
