Chris Cochrane (music) in collaboration with Ishmael Houston-Jones (dance) and Dennis Copper (text) reconstruct THEM , an incendiary work addressed some of the many ways men could be with men. After a successful run of the work-in-progress at PS122 in 1985 the creators of THEM felt that the urgency of the AIDS epidemic demanded a presence in this piece about men with men. In the 1986 premier of the full-length version for six male dancers at PS122 Cooper read his own provocative words, and Cochrane played cacophonous electric guitar live; frequently violent and exhausting dance sequences, culminated in a horrific duet between Houston-Jones and an animal carcass on a dusty mattress. The production almost got PS122 shut down.

Beginning on October 27, New York City Opera will present Parallel Perceptions, a contemporary art exhibition that features the works of six visual artists that have been paired with productions from City Opera's 2010-11 season, including Leonard Bernstein's A Quiet Place; Richard Strauss's Intermezzo; Donizetti's The Elixir of Love; three one-act operas (Monodramas) by John Zorn, Arnold Schoenberg, and Morton Feldman; and Stephen Schwartz's Séance on a Wet Afternoon. Curated by accomplished artist and photo editor Naomi Ben-Shahar, the exhibition will take place during the fall and spring seasons and includes a series of additional paintings, sculptures, and photographs by Charles Ray, Pipilotti Rist, Tina Barney, Isaac Julian, Dash Snow and Kehinde Wiley.

In addition to the live performance, there will be a special Happy Hour with $1 Stone Ales and a FREE Happy Hour Buffet. The Happy Hour begins at 5:30PM and the concert follows at 7:30PM.

Some are faint, forgotten paths from unsung outposts like Florence, Sarajevo, Kishinev and Rio de Janeiro. Others run from imagined clubs where klezmorim jam with salseros, cantors croon with Afrobeat brass bands, and 80's 'hair' bands belt out Yiddish ditties accompanied by screeching guitars and synthesizers.

Guest curator Joel Harrison has assembled some of the world's finest improvising guitarists for a three day festival at Cornelia St. Cafe focusing on duos that bring together unusual, (mostly) first-time, pairings. The emphasis is on fearless innovators and improvisers- jazz, country, blues, rock, prog, noise, Indian, and classical will seamlessly meld together. Surprise will be the order of the day.

Madrid-based contemporary dance company CND2 (Compañía Nacional de Danza 2) performs at Jacob's Pillow July 28-August 1, in their final engagement under departing founder and Artistic Director Nacho Duato. Nacho Duato announced in April of 2010 that by the end of July he would step down as Artistic Director of both CND2 and the parent company CND after founding both companies and twenty years at the helm. For this very special engagement, CND2 will perform the U.S. premiere of Insected by co-Artistic Director Tony Fabre, and acclaimed dancemaker Duato's movingly spiritual works Kol Nidre and Gnawa.

TWO HOT SUMMER EVENTS: What happens when jazz meets classical? Join us for two innovative, boundary-smashing concerts featuring improvisation, virtuoso performers, and live electronics -- and expect the unexpected!

The Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute (JCOI), which brings together 35 jazz composers chosen from a national pool of applicants to explore the challenges of writing for the symphony orchestra, will culminate in two performances. On Friday, July 23 at 8pm, the Wet Ink ensemble, conducted by Carl Bettendorf, will perform works by Leroy Jenkins, Bernhard Lang, Katharina Rosenberger, Eric Wubbels, and Richard Barrett. On Saturday, July 24 at 8pm, American Composers Orchestra, conducted by Gil Rose, with guest artists J.D. Parran and Earle Howard, will perform works by Anthony Davis, Roscoe Mitchell, Earle Brown, Errollyn Wallen, and John Zorn.
