Playwrights Theatre Accepting Submissions to the 33rd Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest and Festival

Playwrights Theatre is currently accepting submissions for the 33rd Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest and Festival. Plays are accepted in the following divisions: Elementary (grades 4-6), Junior High (grades 7-9), High School (grades 10-12), and Living with Disabilities (grades 6-12). Interested young playwrights must submit their plays online at www.njypf.org.

Madison Recreation, Playwrights Theatre Present MAGIC TO DO Tonight

The Madison Recreation Department and Playwrights Theatre will present two summer musicals in July. MAGIC TO DO -- A Musical Revue of Stephen Schwartz and HOW TO EAT LIKE A CHILD And Other Lessons In Not Being A Grownup. Performances will take place at Fairleigh Dickinson University, The Barn Theatre, 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ.

The Kennedy Center to Host 10th Annual MFA Playwrights' Workshop This Summer

The Kennedy Center, in association with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, the National New Play Network (NNPN)-the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays-and with Stanford University's National Center for New Plays, will host more than 50 playwrights, directors, and dramaturgs from July 25 to August 2, 2015 as part of the 10th annual weeklong MFA Playwrights' Workshop featuring new works by MFA students from Columbia University, Northwestern University, Fordham University, Yale School of Drama, the Juilliard School, New York University-Tisch School of the Arts, University of California-San Diego, and the Juilliard School.

Playwrights Theatre to Host Play Readings at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Playwrights Theatre has announced that is will host a plethora of new play reading events on the Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. All readings will begin promptly at 7:00pm. Admission is free; however, reservations are required and can be made online at www.ptnj.org

Playwrights Theatre Names 32nd Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest Winners

Playwrights Theatre has announced the Junior High School winners of the 32nd Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest. From the 345 plays submitted by young writers throughout the state in all three divisions (Elementary, Junior High School and High School), a panel of theatre professionals has selected three Junior High School plays. Due to the overwhelming amount of plays submitted in this category, more time was needed to evaluate this division. High School and Elementary School winners were announced in April 2015.

Playwrights Theatre & Bickford Theatre to Present TALLEY'S FOLLY, 4/9-26

Playwrights Theatre, Bickford Theatre and Oldcastle Theatre Company of Vermont are pleased to present Talley's Folly by Landford Wilson. The co-production will preview on April 9 and run through April 26, 2015. The production will be directed by John Pietrowski and features Eli Ganias of New York City and Amy Griffin of Nyack, NY. Single tickets are on sale now: General Admission $45, Seniors $40, Members of the Morris Museum/Bickford Theatre Guild $40, Groups (10 or more) $33 and Students $20. NEW PLAYS NEW JERSEY Festival to Run 3/2-8

With partial funding from the National New Play Network Collaboration Fund and as part of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance Stages Festival, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey and six other theatres will collaborate on New Plays New Jersey, a week-long celebration of new plays by New Jersey playwrights and the the theatres that support them.

Mercer County Artists Award Announced

The Mercer County arts community came out in force to view the rich and varied works of fellow artists at the Awards Ceremony and Opening Reception for “Mercer County Artists 2015” on February 4. The exhibit is on display through February 27 at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Centenary Stage Company to Offer Playwrighting Course

The Centenary Stage Company will offer a special Playwrighting Class this winter, which will be open to the public. The class will be taught by Playwrights Theatre of NJ Executive Director, John Pietrowski, and will be held on Tuesdays from 6-9 PM, from Jan. 20th through May 5. The cost of the class will be $250.

Dreamcatcher & Playwrights Theatre to Premiere 100 YEARS, 10/2-19

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional Theatre in Residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, and Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey of Madison are co-producing the premiere production of Richard Dresser's 100 Years. This dark comedy set sometime in the not-too-distant future has been developed on stages across the country before coming to New Jersey. 100 Years plays October 2 through 19, with talkbacks following the October 5 and 12 matinees.

Playwrights Theatre Sets 2014-15 Adult Playwriting Classes

Playwrights Theatre's Adult Playwriting Workshop will be held at Playwrights Theatre Administrative Offices, 28 Walnut Street, Madison. Tuition is $275.00 and $250.00 for returning students. Playwrights Theater offers a pro-rated option for late starts (this class only) for individuals that aren't able to join the class on the first day. 6th Annual Cultural Access Network Awards Set for 6/19

On June 19th, at the sixth annual Cultural Access Network Awards, three organizations and one individual will be honored for their leadership, innovation, and commitment to increasing access to the arts for people with disabilities. The Awards are offered annually by the Cultural Access Network Project, cosponsored by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State; for the fifth year in a row, the event will be held at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey.
