The Alliance Theatre has announced the world premiere of NATIVE GUARD. Winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey's NATIVE GUARD will be brought to the stage with actors, music, imagery, and visual art in a complete theatrical staging. NATIVE GUARD will open the Hertz Stage season at the Alliance Theatre today, September 26 - October 19, 2014. Opening night is Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

Florida Studio Theatre announces its 2014-2015 Cabaret season. Starting off the season are the full-bodied vocal stylings in Dancing in the Street with the Prima Donnettes. Next up is the heartfelt and unforgettable music of American Pie. Concluding the season is the entertaining and honest Never Marry a Girl With Cold Feet: And Other Life Lessons from Vaudeville.

John Mellencamp announced dates for his upcoming Plain Spoken tour beginning in January 2015 throughout the summer. "The Voice of the Heartland" will play 80 shows including multiple dates in the artist's hometown of Bloomington, Indiana; Nashville, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, and more.

Acclaimed songwriter, singer, musician, columnist and author, Grammy Award-winner Janis Ian, who wrote and performed the anthems "At Seventeen" and "Society's Child", will make her debut appearance at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, September 21, at 8 p.m. She won her first Grammy in 1975 for "At Seventeen", and her second in 2013 for the category of Best Spoken Word album for her autobiography, Society's Child. The Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce the promotion of Christopher Moses to Associate Artistic Director. Moses joined the education staff of the Alliance Theatre in 2000 and has served as the Alliance's Director of Educational Programs since 2011. This transition reflects the Alliance's ongoing commitment to artistic integration in education.

The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Bright Star, a new American musical featuring music by Edie Brickell and Steve Martin, lyrics by Brickell, and book by Martin, based on an original story by Martin and Brickell. Directed by Walter Bobbie, Bright Star will run September 13 - November 2, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run September 13 - September 27. Opening night is Sunday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. Single tickets go on sale on Friday, August 8 at noon.

Twenty students gathered at the Alliance Theatre today to begin the thirteenth annual Collision Project. This diverse group of teenagers from around the metro Atlanta area will explore a classic text under the guidance of a professional playwright. The Pulitzer Prize winning American realist novel The Grapes of Wrath will serve as the source text that will inspire a new performance piece developed by the students. Under the guidance of the Alliance Theatre's Mellon Playwright in Residence, best-selling author, Pearl Cleage, students will explore John Steinbeck's themes of home, family, environment, and income inequality and examine how these themes are manifested in modern times.
