Choreographer Liz Gerring to Receive $25,000 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award

This year's Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor carrying an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer Liz Gerring in recognition of her talent and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Active in the dance world for nearly 20 years, Gerring regularly garners acclaim for her 'enthralling and important' works (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times) that also 'reveals the dancers as the splendid athletes that they are' (dance critic Deborah Jowitt). Gerring will accept the Award and members of Liz Gerring Dance Company will perform at the Pillow's Season Opening Gala on Saturday, June 20 in the Ted Shawn Theatre. The company will return to perform the evening-length work glacier in the Doris Duke Theatre August 19-23. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include tap artist Michelle Dorrance, the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham, 2013 MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham, and Tony Award winner and director of New York Live Arts Bill T. Jones, among others.

The Vail International Dance Festival announces its 2015 schedule to be held July 27 through August 10, marking its 27th season with world premieres, exceptional debuts, and captivating collaborations. Located in the pristine alpine community of Vail, Colorado, the Festival features many of the world's greatest artists from all genres of dance. Under the direction of former New York City Ballet star Damian Woetzel, the Festival's 2015 season includes Artist-in-Residence ballerina Carla Körbes, Savion Glover, Wendy Whelan, American Ballet Theatre's Isabella Boylston, Misty Copeland, and Herman Cornejo, New York City Ballet's Sara Mearns, Tiler Peck, Lauren Lovette, Jared Angle, Chase Finlay, Zachary Catazaro, and Joseph Gordon, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Linda Celeste Sims and Antonio Douthit-Boyd, Boston Ballet's Misa Kuranaga and Jeffrey Cirio, Pacific Northwest Ballet's Angelica Generosa, and Memphis Jookers Lil Buck and Prime Tyme.

John Heginbotham to Co-Create Dance Works with Students for 32nd Annual Concert at Irvine Barclay Theatre

'The mind of John Heginbotham is a magical place,' according to the New Yorker Magazine. As Heginbotham takes up several residencies at The Wooden Floor, a free arts-based youth development organization for 375 low-income youth, dancers will experience this first-hand and create magic of their own. This residency continues the organization's award-winning tradition of partnering its low-income youth with leading contemporary dance choreographers from around the nation to co-create progressive new dance works at its 32nd Annual Concert, May 28-30, 2015, at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.

Festival highlights include the West Coast debut of Dance Heginbotham as well as works by Joe Goode, Pearl Marill, Kate Weare, Randy Paufve and Brenda Way. A series of one-night only concerts features artists Holcombe Waller, Keith Terry & Corposonic, Dandelion Dancetheater's Bandelion ensemble and San Jose Taiko with DJ Bangerz. Finally, the Festival spotlights Namita Kapoor and Rueda con Ritmo, performing as part of ODC Theater's biannual Dance and Diaspora series, and Milissa Payne Bradley and Antoine Hunter, this year's Theater Unplugged artists. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the Fall 2014 performance season, which runs September 17 to December 18. The BAC Presents series will feature the World, U.S., and New York Premieres of contemporary theater, dance, music, and multimedia works that have either been commissioned by BAC or created by artists who have been in residence at BAC. The season lineup also includes BAC Space 2014 -- a new initiative of BAC's Residency Program -- which reflects BAC's core mission to support artists at various stages of their artistic development, and expose audiences to innovative, contemporary new work.

This year's Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a coveted honor carrying a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to choreographer John Heginbotham in recognition of his talent and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Heginbotham, an alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow, has garnered critical and popular acclaim for his contemporary works, eclectic and rich with “movement that exhibits sharpness, energy, formality and, yes, oddity” (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times). His company, Dance Heginbotham, will perform the evening-length world premiere of Chalk and Soot in the Doris Duke Theatre July 30-August 3. In Chalk and Soot, Heginbotham joins forces with composer Colin Jacobsen to create a work featuring imaginative, theatrical choreography, live music performed by superstar string quartet Brooklyn Rider, the vocal stylings of Shara Worden (lead singer of My Brightest Diamond), and singer/songwriter Gabriel Kahane on harmonium.
