Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music Announces its 56th Season

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America's longest running festival of new orchestral music, celebrates its 56th season and the second season of its esteemed Music Director and Conductor, Cristian M?celaru, July 29 - August 12, 2018. This year's festival takes audiences around the globe with a series of new works by composers from the US, UK, Canada, Macedonia, Romania, China, Korea, and Sweden.

The Irish Are Coming To Shakespeare Theatre Company in WAITING FOR GODOT

Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will host Druid, Ireland's most celebrated theatre company, and their critically acclaimed production of Waiting for Godot. Directed by Tony Award-winner Garry Hynes, Druid's production of Samuel Beckett's absurd, anarchic masterpiece will make its regional premiere at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street, NW) from April 17 through May 20, 2018 before it travels on to Chicago.

Carnegie Hall's Notables Program Presents the 14th Annual Notable Occasion

On Monday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m., Nicola and Beatrice Bulgari and the Carnegie Hall Notables-a membership and ticket program for music enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s-will host the 14th Annual Notable Occasion. This private performance in Zankel Hall for Carnegie Hall Notables and special guests features two American rising star vocalists: soprano Julia Bullock and tenor Paul Appleby offering a combination of arias, lieder, favorites from the American songbook including works by Bernstein, Britten, Lerner and Loewe, Schubert, and Schumann, among other surprises. The two singers will be accompanied by pianist John Arida.

The Cleveland Orchestra Announces 101st Season For 2018-2019

As the celebrations, performances, and successes of The Cleveland Orchestra's Centennial Season continue toward its conclusion this spring, the Orchestra has announced details of its 101st season for 2018-2019. Aspects of the celebratory spirit continues - with a 100th Birthday concert in July for the Cleveland community and Centennial Gala in September. The new season also extends the dedicated week-to-week work, creativity, and artistry required to continue being one of the world's best orchestras year after year.

LA Chamber Orch's Baroque Conversations Spotlights Works For Harpsichord And Flute

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's Baroque Conversations series explores “Nighttime in Four Great Cities” led by Principal Keyboard Patricia Mabee on harpsichord on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles.  The program includes Vivaldi's Concerto, “The Storm at Sea,” the first of his six flute concertos, which features LACO Principal Flute Joachim Becerra Thomsen; Sarabande from Trios for the King's Bed Chamber by Lully, who was in service to Louis XIV of France; Biber's Ciacona, “Night Watchman” from Serenade for Five; and Boccherini's evocative string quartet Night Music of the Streets of Madrid.  A complimentary wine reception for ticket holders begins at 6 pm.

Discussion of Art and Activism to Feature Groundbreaking Stage Director Peter Sellars

Renowned experimental, often-controversial opera and theater director Peter Sellars will join Debbie McNulty, director of Mayor Turner's Office of Cultural Affairs, and Patrick Summers, artistic director of Houston Grand Opera, in a public conversation about art and activism moderated by the Rothko Chapel's executive director, David Leslie, on Tuesday, March 20, 7-8:30 p.m. at the Rothko Chapel, 3900 Yupon St., Houston. Jeffrey Kahane to Make Conducting Debut with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra with Jalbert West Coast Premiere

Jeffrey Kahane makes his first appearance in his new role as Conductor Laureate of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) with the West Coast premiere of Pierre Jalbert's Violin Concerto, featuring LACO Concertmaster Margaret Batjer, on Saturday, March 17, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, and Sunday, March 18, 2018, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.  A co-commission by LACO, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Milwaukee Orchestra, Jalbert's work was written for the concertmasters of the three orchestras.  Kahane, who stepped down as LACO Music Director in June 2017 after a 20-year tenure, also conducts Respighi's Three Botticelli Pictures, a vivid aural impression of three of the Renaissance master's famous paintings, and continues LACO's multi-year exploration of Haydn's famed 12 London symphonies with Symphony No. 99 in E-Flat Major, the seventh in the sequence.

Jaap van Zweden To Lead New York Philharmonic on ASIA 2018 Tour

Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden will lead the New York Philharmonic on the ASIA 2018 tour, March 8–18, 2018. The ten-day tour — Jaap van Zweden's first international tour with the Orchestra — will feature eight concerts in five cities. The Orchestra will perform in Beijing, Kyoto, Tokyo, Nagoya, and Taipei. The soloists on the tour are Beijing-born pianist Yuja Wang and Japanese-American violinist Ryu Goto.

Angela Meade and Elizabeth DeShong Star In Rossini Rarity, SEMIRAMIDE

Rossini's Semiramide is presented at the Met for the first time in 25 years, with eight performances beginning February 19, 2018, led by Maurizio Benini. The cast, comprised of artists considered by many to be amongst the world's leading bel canto singers, includes Angela Meade in the title role, Elizabeth DeShong as Arsace, Javier Camarena as Idreno, Ildar Abdrazakov as King Assur and Ryan Speedo Green as the High Priest Oroe. On March 10, 2018, the production will be transmitted to cinemas throughout the world as part of the Met's Live in HD series.
